High School Wrestlers Practice On Animals

POSTED: 11:24 am EST March 1, 2006

LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- Two brothers from the Cleveland area have grappled with lions and tigers and bears to help hone the skills that are now taking them to the state wrestling tournament.

Lance and Collin Palmer go to St. Edward High School in Lakewood. They were exposed to the big cats and bears while growing up near an animal rescue center operated by their dad, a federally licensed animal trainer.

Senior Lance Palmer is a 140-pounder who said bears have "ridiculous" strength and are most fun to wrestle with. He enters the Division I state tournament Wednesday with a 146-6 high school record.

Brother Collin is a 112-pound freshman who is 36-1 this season. He prefers grappling with young lions and tigers.

The teens said their father is careful about with which animals they actually can wrestle. And they say no animals have ever been harmed.

I believe this article will be of interest to you, Sam.

I remember practicing for big wrestling meets in high school by greasing up the family German Shepard and subduing him in a variety of Half Nelsons, Hammer Locks, and the much feared Camel Clutch.

Of course, you and your friends belittled me, but I believe that I now stand vindicated as this training regimen is far more widely used than once thought, by both actual members of wrestling teams, and "virtual" ones, like myself.

 it was probably sarcasm)

Well, I know you don't prefer for folks to bring up this story: But I fondly remember the time you had Rommel (why is it that so many folks name their Shepards after war criminals?) in a sleeper hold and he wiggled out and ended up pinning you.

As I have related more than once on these threads, we have a dog that is half Shepard/half Jack Russell. We don't wrestle anymore...not after I was put out of service a good 10 days after being the victim of a nasty DDT.

St Ed's is great at Football too!

(FYI: Lakewood is gay, gay, gay. More gays per capita than San Fran)
