Copenhagen - Cartoons of Prophet Muhammad that were first published in a Danish newspaper last year and which have sparked an outcry in the Muslim world have been reprinted in 143 newspapers in 56 countries, a study showed on Wednesday.

One or several of the 12 controversial cartoons have appeared either in print editions or online, according to the study done by eJour, the online magazine of the Danish School of Journalism.

Most of the reproductions have appeared in Western countries, including 70 newspapers in Europe, 14 in the United States, three in Canada and New Zealand, two in Australia, and one in Japan.

But the drawings have also been printed in eight Muslim countries: Algeria, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.

In the United States, no national newspaper has published the cartoons, but 14 regional and local publications have, according to the study conducted in February.

The drawings are considered by many fervent Muslims to be blasphemous and have sparked violent protests and scores of deaths in Muslim countries since they were first published.

I wonder how many were then used to wrap fish or line bird cages?

Any paper that will not publish these cartoons is a conspicuous coward... cowering before petty tyrants.

"Muhammad cartoon in 143 papers"

I sure wish our newspaper would carry "Muhammad." I'm getting real sick of "Doonesberry," "For Better or For Worse," "Nancy," etc.

As soon as I saw the idiotic response by the radicals about the cartoon, I thought every darned newspaper in print should print those things....then see what happens. Instead, oh my, we really just have to pacify these poor misunderstood people who are willing to burn up, blow up , you name it, if the rest of the world doesn't cow tow to their beliefs. If every newspaper would have printed those things I think it would have sent the message GET OVER IT, THE REST OF THE WORLD IS MORE THAN OFFENDED BY YOUR BEHAVIOR.

I think we can see how far it gets by attempting to pacify those folks.....I'm not sure when the West is going to figure that out.
There are those who will not rest till the rest of the world has converted to Islam or are dead.

I agree.

Here's my idea on how to help tame the islamofacists. Every media outlet and newspaper in the free world should take turns offending the muslims in a big way. One each week ought to do it.

It may take a while with these loons, but sooner or later, they'll get tired of being perpetually offended and will just start to ignore the insults. Even if I'm wrong, I've gotta believe that it would "raise the bar" on insults, so that it would take a real zinger to get the muslims cranked to start rioting, killing people and burning things.

Best case scenario is that within two years, they'll be just like the Christian community. 1% of them will fire off a few angry emails, threaten a boycott, and then forget about the whole thing... :)

I ran across this flash muslim cartoon today and think it exemplifies what has been going on lately. If you are offended by language, you might not want to view it.
