Cardinal-designate William J. Levada said it is difficult for homosexual priests, especially those who make their disorder public, to be seen as representatives of Christ by Catholic faithful.
Public declaration in particular puts priests at odds with the spousal character of love as revealed by God and imaged in humanity, said the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, during a sermon, as reported by the Catholic News Service.

prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith I believe that was the office Pope Benedict vacated. Pronouncements arising from it might carry significant weight.

Logical. Same position as for alcholic priests isn't it?

I can hardly wait to see the Left denounce the Vatican for blatant homophobia.

Yes.
Too bad the modern "progressives" in our society believe Paul was gay, so hence what he said wasn't really what he meant.
Sigh...

I'm proud that my new church is taking a firm doctrinal stand on the issue, especially in light of the problems of the past.
2 years ago I fled the Episcopal church, 2 days from now I flee Louisiana.

You are correct. In my opinion, Levada--as an American prelate--has been put into that position as a mouth-piece for Benedict. His job will be to put an American face on the very orthodox doctrinal pronouncements coming out of the Vatican.

Of course they do. Don't you know that it's standard operating procedure for homosexual advocates to accuse anyone who opposes them of being a secret butt-pirate?

I guess I don't understand the concept of a 'homosexual priest'. A priest takes a vow of celibacy so being heterosexual or homosexual would really make no difference, would it (as long as he really was celibate)??

I've always been curious about the phrase, "lower the boom." What does it mean, exactly? Is it nautical in origin?

Some priests feel compelled to let their sexual preference be known to their congregations. By doing this they give scandal.

Those silly Euros have outlawed "fear of homosexuals" which apparently can be defined by the mood and feelings of any the offended individuals who happen to suffer from the disorder of homosexuality.
So, if the cardinal's statements are considered homophobic and if the cardinal leaves the vatican to enter Italy, could he get nailed for homophobia and end up in jail?
