NEW YORK -- The Port Authority said Thursday it will file suit to block a Dubai-based firm from taking over operations at a Port Newark container terminal, saying the federal government has not given them assurances about security issues.

A lawsuit based on what grounds? What law has been broken? I have thus far seen no evidence from anyone that any law was broken or any policy circumvented.
Rush goes golfing in Dubai, and BOOM, he's their number 1 fan. Forget the country's role in 9/11, their royal families' support for Bin Laden and the Taliban, their refusal to recognize Israel. A nice round of golf in Dubai changes everything.
The lies and misrepresentations about this issue are something to behold.
Now you don't want to be bringing facts into this. Been watching off and on today about this. What it boils down to is that the same people will be working the same job. They'll just be getting their paychecks from a different company.
But this opportunity is too good for politicians to pass up on grandstanding
My apologies, Peach.
I mistakingly confused your comment with the previous reply that said "union smell ping".
I guess I found it so boring that I didn't pay close attention to who actually posted it.
;^)
And your flamebait added to the discussion how?
We had that on the West Coast. A Union strike!!! Took me a whole year to get replacement parts!!!
The tinfoilers are getting help from certain republican elites.
That is fantastic imagery........and exactly what is going on here.
(At least they're not writing in ALL CAPS ANY MORE!!!! ;)
"Rush was talking about htis today. He is in favor of the deal and did a bit of research. It was the longshorman's union that raised the scuttlebut to the dems. The union is worried it will harm their members."
Limbaugh has zero credibility. I'm sure the objections of the Longshoremans union that he cited were a complete fabrication.
Possibly before 9/11 but after? No way. This was someone who pulled us out of the Law of the Sea Treaty because he saw that for what it was, an attack on our sovereignty.
"If this were not a mid-term election year, this deal would not have raised a single eyebrow."
Agreed.
That's right! Well said! Thanks to Sen. Coburn's and his allies Senators Clinton and Schumer the State of Oklahoma will be safe from insidious economic invasion by foreign powers!
And Richard Reid (the shoebomber) came from Britain, the same country P&O is located. Should we stop using Citibank because Atta did business with them? Should we stop using boxcutters because that was the weapon of choice? Should we stop wearing shoes because they can be used to make small explosive devices?
Where does the insanity end?
One of the facts I found was that local governments own the ports. If that is true then the transfer from P & O to DPW is NOT about port operations, Correct?
The biggest misrepresentation that took place is when the review committee said there were no national security implications for the purchase and did not conduct a mandated 45-day extension to the review. Do you believe there are NO national security implications to this deal?
Stupid comments like that, and some wonder why they get called 'idiot' on these threads. Your comment is STUPID, containing NOT ONE FACT. When one is aware that they are talking out of their ass, without facts and don't care, that makes them an idiot.
Again you are wrong. The facts are that these are U.S. ports that lease these terminals to a company from the U.K.
We cannot stop the purchase of that company we can only pull the leases.
