A magazine writer or a much decorated American general with decades of experience.
David Horowitz, a reformed liberal (since the 70's when the Black Panthers killed someone he knew), has been one of the voices for conservatism in the late 1990's straight into this decade.
Mr. Horowitz can be credited as one of the people who has exposed leftist bias in schools and colleges.
He is not just a magazine writer.

I'll go with Gen. Tommy Franks.
Generals can be bought and paid for too; especially when it's yet another of Bush's personal buddies. If you want to argue then address the issues, and leave the cult worship at home.

I'm with you and Franks on this but I've got several of Horowitz's books, and he's a fantastic writer, a former leftist who's converted to Reaganism. Amazing story, really.
I just think he's wrong on this.

Come on Dane, is that your best?
Where is that confirmation of Harriet Miers you swore would happen?

Oh what does he know about the Middle East. LOL
Saw him on Fox, very persuasive. Of note, he said the Port of Dubai was the US Navy port of choice over there because it was well run and secure.

I saw his interview on Fox. Anyone who has read his book knows that this man TELLS IT LIKE IT IS!

When: "Several Bush-administration security officials expressed concerns" over this deal, then maybe there are legitimate concerns.
According to Bill Gertz, it would appear there's a lot of uncertainty by govt officials, including Rumsfeld, who has said "he was reluctant to judge whether the management contracts posed national-security risks because he was not fully informed."
From Bill Gertz's article:
http://www.washtimes.com/national/20060222-122115-8912r.htm "Security fears about infiltration by terrorists"
By Bill Gertz
"Several Bush-administration security officials expressed concerns yesterday that terrorists could infiltrate seaports through a United Arab Emirates company that is vying to manage six U.S. ports.....
"....A Persian Gulf state such as the United Arab Emirates could provide an infrastructure for terrorists to penetrate U.S. security as part of a major terrorist operation, the officials said."
Donald Rumsfeld has said: He and Gen. Pace "were unaware of the port-deal security issue until the weekend."

Much as I love Gen. Franks, I think he does not want to risk the bases in Dubai.
This is appeasement.
