US accuses Iran of arming, training Iraqi militias

Mon Feb 20,2006

Iran is providing weapons and training to militias and extremist groups in Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, the US Ambassador to Iraq, charged.

"Iran has a mixed policy towards Iraq," he told a news conference.

On the one hand it had good state-to-state relations with the Shiite-dominated government, but it has "another policy as well which is to work with some militias, to work with some extremist groups, to provide training and to provide weapons, directly or indirectly," Khalilzad said.

"Iraqis are increasingly concerned about the role Iran is playing," he added.

US authorities are particularly worried about the growing influence of Shiite militias which are alleged to have infiltrated Iraq's interior ministry.

Khalilzad also slammed a call made last week by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki for British forces, belonging to the US-led coalition, to leave southern Iraq, saying this was "uncalled for interference" in Iraq's internal affairs.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari also said Sunday that Mottaki's calls were "unacceptable", adding that "only the Iraqi government is allowed to decide the fate of these troops".

Iran's attempt to stir trouble could be linked to attempts to distract public opinion away from the nuclear question, the ambassador said, referring to international fears Tehran is seeking to built an atomic weapon.

OK, so now what are we going to do about it? I only ask because our troops are the ones facing the dangers over there. Are we going to go aggressively attack the source of the problem or are we going to let Iran become what Cambodia was during Vietnam?

We'll soon see that the only things Iraqi's hate more than Americans is the Iranians...

you all are dreaming. If anyone does anything, it will be the Israelis, and we *might* provide limited logistical support, and counter radar/detection jamming for Israeli aircraft if a strike does take place. I don't think *we* can attack Iran. Our public will go nuts for one, and two we dont have the military (ground forces) to hold any ground. We can use the Airforce but its very doubtful. We are going to play politics and appeasement with Iran for 10-12 years before anything is done. Just watch.

Hate to say it, but its looking that way. Sorry folks, our country just isn't what it was 40-50 years ago. We dont have the political fortitude/backing, force structure, laws to support this was. Hate to sound pessimistic, but if you look at the ww2/korean war generation, we need to bring that type of mentality back to defeat this enemy. These people are worse than the Japanese suicide bombers and the fanatics that ran gas houses and mass concentration camps in china, and the nazis that killed thousands of jews. We can't fight these people with our liberal minded appeasement tactics. It's not going to cut it. From what I see, I don't think Iran is going to be "go".

We are going to see more appeasement, just watch. We are going to let the EU handle this one to try and sound multilateral, instead of "going it alone". Iran's mullahs are shaking in their mosques right now.

Oh by the way... I think I saw on FOX tonight that the liberals out in WA are trying to ban flag football/football from all k-12 schools. They say it promotes violent behavior and hurts kids feelings... something along those lines. It's that kind of behavior that is fucking our country over. Sorry to sound so blunt, but this nation is in some real deep shit.

We will attack. And we'll attack in force.

Something tells me you're an Iranian troll here...

I smell a rat.

They are developing nukes as we speak, and building bigger and better defenses, and fund the biggest terrorist organizations in the Middle East, yet we still provide funding, and appease the hell out of them... We even sent them a shit ton of relief supplies during their earthquake. War? Yeah right.

I'm just being real, it would be nice to attack them, but its not going to happen. We just can't afford to right now, from any angle that you look at it.

I saw something similar to that too. They will allow kids to play football but they are not allowed to run, only throw the ball back and forth to each other. A bunch of schools have also banned kids from playing tag because they say that it is too dangerous, promotes bullying, and hurts kids feelings. Somewhere else they are trying to get the movie Curious George taken out of theaters because they say that it promotes mistreatment of animals and bad parenting.

We now longer live in the United States of America, this is some sort of twisted lunatic asylum. One of the reasons why I feel it is absolutely vital that we win the war on terror quickly and decisively is because todays kids have been so completely pussified by their parents. How the hell are they going to deal with defending this country from insane muslims who are killing people over freaking cartoons when they have been brainwashed into believing that they should be exposed to anything even remotely dangerous under any circumstances.

I know that the 60s was way before my time but I really think that alot of this limp wristed garbage is a direct result of those drug addled, tree hugging, pansy ass, pacifists now in positions where they can create policies like this. The direct result of the 60s generation's idiocy may very well yet destroy this country.

It is hard to go to sleep at night knowing that Iranian physicists are starting their day working passionately to develop nuclear weapons systems to kill me.

Wrong. If you recall the two Iraqi wars, Israel sat idle while Iraq shot off scud missles at Israel.
They understood that if they got involved every muslim country would come to the aid of a fellow muslim country being attacked by Israel.
Israel will sit idle again and let America do the dirty work.
If you see what Israel has allowed the palis to do for the last decade it seems they have lost their will. Yeah they have the military might but not the will to get involved.

Rightfully so. The last thing you do when a bully tells you "hit me..hit me" is strike. That is what they want. Or at least that is what France and/or Israel want.

I'm not buying it.
