Conflict could last 100 years (The cartoons that launched a thousand ships)

The most violent demonstrations about the Mohammed drawings seem to have ebbed out, but the crisis could continue, says the foreign minister

Foreign Minister Per Stig Møller expressed cautious optimism on Monday that a resolution to the Mohammed crisis was nearing, but warned that the conflict could continue for a century.

Møller acknowledged that the crisis represented 'the worst foreign affairs crisis since 1945', but felt the situation appeared to have cooled off.

'The general picture does not indicate a further escalation. I can't say if the crisis has topped off yet - it shifts back and forth all the time. But I hope there is a chance for cautious optimism.'

Denmark evacuated embassy personnel from Syria, Iran, and Indonesia over the weekend after extremist groups announced that they were targeting Danish citizens.

While Møller praised Indonesia's leader for coming forward on national TV and rejecting extremists, the foreign minister was critical of Syrian and Iranian authorities for not being able to control demonstrators.

'In both countries, there was completely inadequate protection of the embassies. I don't want to draw hasty conclusions about what has happened, but I have informed Iran and Syria's government that no matter what the political motivation was on the streets, it is the governments' responsibility to protect the embassies. Even during World War II, embassies were left in peace,' said Møller.

Møller was particularly critical of Iran's leadership.

'Iran has to choose. If it wants to be a part of the world society, including the WTO, it will have to take steps toward us. Otherwise, it isolates itself. It's a choice the Iranians will have to make,' he said.

Møller noted that the angry demonstrations during the past weeks revealed deep-seated tensions between the Western and Muslim world. Muslims might have difficulty understanding the courts, not the government, decide the limits of of what is acceptable. The Western world and Danes, in addition, needed to acknowledge the importance religion has for many Muslims.

'We belong to different cultures, and we shouldn't make them the same. This diversity is a source of wealth for humanity, but we have to learn to live with each other,' he said.

Islam is a cancer for humanity. A religion started by a murderous pedophile cannot come to any good. Muslims are only good when they are not faithful to Islam

I think he meant for denmark, the biggest foeign affair crisis. face it, nothing outside of their narrow field of view amounts to much, at lest to them. Now that it is happening, to them, it is such a shock.
Damn, they must be saying, 40 years of appeasment down the tubes.

Ya think?

We belong to different cultures...but we have to learn to live with each other.

It sounds oh so very reasonable. But it's impossible to be reasonable with people whose mindset is to fly airplanes into buildings full of innocent people and to burn down embassies because of cartoon.

No, you can't really reason with terrorists. All you can do is kill them down to a tolerable level.

First we're told this war on terrorism will last a dozen years. Later the time frame is changed to a generation. Now we're at a "100 years."

If the west can't end this crap in another year or two, the west needs new leaders.

Or, until the Muslims find another appeasement bargaining chip. As long as no one tells them to suck it up, they will continue this baloney - ignoring the fact that the very same "cartoons" were published in an Egyptian paper five months earlier with nary a peep from the rent-a-raghead mob.

Not if we play by Patton's rules.

and Black Jack Pershings rules:

Just before World War I, there were a number of terrorist attacks on the United States forces in the Philippines by Muslim extremists. So General Pershing captured 50 terrorists and had them tied to posts for execution. He then had his men bring in two pigs and slaughter them in front of the, now horrified, terrorists. Muslims detest! pork because they believe pigs are filthy animals. Some of them simply refuse to eat it, while others won’t even touch pigs at all, nor any of their byproducts. To them, eating or touching a pig, its meat, its blood, etc., is to be instantly barred from paradise (and those virgins) and doomed to hell. The soldiers then soaked their bullets in the pigs blood, and proceeded to execute 49 of the terrorists by firing squad. The soldiers then dug a big hole, dumped in the terrorist’s bodies and covered them in pig blood, entrails, etc. They let the 50th man go. And for the next forty-two years, there was not a single Muslim extremist attack anywhere in the world. Maybe it is time for this segment of history to repeat itself, maybe in Iraq? The question is, where do we find another Black Jack Pershing?

Where do you get twelve years, sd? I've always heard President Bush, from the very days after 9/11 and onward, refuse to put a limit on. Many years. The President has indirectly compared the war to the American Revolution which took 9 years or so, and others such as myself and Bejamin Netayahu's Dad compare it to the American Indian Wars which lasted over 200 years.

i will tell you that in no uncertain terms, if this war lasts for more than say, 10 to 15 yrs on the present level of activity, islam wins hands down. the west simply does not have the staying power to see it through a long period of time. he says 100 yrs, lol. in 100 yrs, due to abortion and gays, the usa will already be a majority muslim, unless we stop them now.

For the Muslims this is a religious crusade. For the West this is a cultural crusade.
