....Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.

There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!

If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.

Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.

A Lesson From The Oak Tree

Read:
Galatians 5:16-26

Have you ever noticed that in winter some oak trees retain their crisp, dry leaves long after the maples, the elms, and the walnuts have become bare skeletons? Even the strong winter winds and the early spring rains do not completely strip the oak branches of all their old leaves. But as springtime progresses, warmer winds blow and something wonderful begins to happen. Tiny buds start appearing at the tips of the twigs, and the dried remnants of the preceding season fall off. New life replaces the old.

At times, old habits cling to our lives with the same tenacity as those oak leaves. Even the winds of adversity do not remove all the lifeless leftovers of our fallen human nature.

But Christ, who dwells in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, is at work. His life within us continually seeks to push off the old habits—renewing us when we confess our sins, steadying us when we falter, and strengthening us to do His will.

When every effort to cast off an old sinful habit ends in failure, remember the mighty oak. Thank God for His Spirit who lives in you. Keep saying yes to His gentle urging to be kind, loving, compassionate, honest, and faithful. Those "lifeless old leaves" will eventually drop off. —Dennis De Haan

We had th warmest Jan on record. Now we are back in the deep freeze.
Lake Erie is at 33 and Ontario at 36..

Wonderful news! Its_Me_K.E.T.'s son is returning from Iraq the end of this month! I am so very happy for her and for Brian and his family. His safe return will be another prayer answered. He is my hero!

She commented on the stunningly beautiful slide show MEG33 posted of a Wake for a Fallen Warrior - a Native American Indian Marine who died in Iraq in January.

Told her I had been to powwows in Florida, and one in Rockingham, NC. We had our daughter and husband and children meet us there, with them arriving an hour after we did. Little Morgan, our granddaughter, was not yet 3, and had never SEEN a real Indian apparently, because she froze and frowned, about to cry, at the sea of colors and movement around her!

Her parents did not notice, and I quickly took her hand and reassured her, taking her to sit on a blanket my husband (his grandmother a Shoshone Indian) and I had brought.

Before long she became comfortable, since we were, and I eventully asked if she'd like to go with me to a nearby stand to get a cola. She held my hand and stayed close, but as I was paying for the drinks, she broke loose and dashed up to an Indian Chief in full regalia near us, grabbed his buckskins and let go and ran back!!

She with total wonder told me,
"GRANDMAMA! I TOUCHED AN INDIAN!!"

It was fitting and proper that with her Indian blood,
she had already "counted coup"..:)

Shortly after Dad died, I gave my mother a Moonflower, a flowering vine that blossoms only in the moonlight.

At some point shortly after, my mother did something silly that Dad would have teased her about- whereupon daughter and I bestowed upon my mother an appropriate "Indian" name. I just asked daughter, neither of us can remember what it was- then I did something silly, and they bestowed an Indian name upon me in like fashion. They were great opportunities to laugh.

Then...one morning, I entered daughter's room to wake her and lo and behold, her heinie was uncovered, blooming for all the world to see, whereupon she was immediately bestowed the Indian name "Moonflower". LOL!
