I found this interesting as I am working on a project at the present time. My father in law served in World War II in France and Germany and my mother in law saved all the letters he wrote to her, my project is trying to read them and type them up and put into a notebook.

I found also that he did not want to discuss his activities during the war. Toward the end he was guarding prisoners who he said were the meanest of the mean. The ones who had killed so many of our boys at the Bulge.

He was drafted in the summer of 1944 and was discharged in April of 1945. A country boy who had never been away from home forced to grow up fast.

My question now is what to do with the original letters--does anyone have a suggestion as to who might be interested in them?

My Dad was in the same situation in one way. He was a farm boy from northern North Dakota who had probably never been over the next hill. Then at 19, shipped off to oklahoma and then Africa. I did hear him say once that when he left he was a kid, when he got back he was middle aged.

Do you think a VFW or similar organization would be interested in your letters?
