Senator Clinton's Words Don't Match Record

Accuses Bush Of Being Against Veterans But She Voted Against McCain's Effort To Help Veterans

Once again, Senator Hillary Clinton's rhetoric does not match her record. In her recent news conference, Senator Clinton attacked the President – accusing him of being against veterans. But in Washington, Senator Clinton voted against Senator John McCain's Amendment to clear a backlog of adjudicating 600,000 veterans benefits by cutting pork barrel spending.

The McCain Amendment (RCV #268, 8/2/01) was supported by the VFW, the Disabled American Veterans, AMVETS and the Paralyzed Veterans. It funded adjudication of veterans claims by cutting eighteen specific Congressional earmarks. Senator Clinton voted against McCain's effort to help veterans by cutting pork.

Former Yonkers Mayor John Spencer – a Vietnam combat veteran who is challenging Senator Clinton – noted "It's unfortunate New York is represented by a Senator whose word is so hollow."

Projects Cut By McCain's Amendment To Fund Veterans:

  1. $375,000 for the Fells Point Creative Alliance of Baltimore, Maryland, for development of the Patterson Center for the Arts.

  2. $150,000 for the County of Kauai, Hawaii, for the Heritage Trails project.

  3. $375,000 for infrastructure improvements to the School of the Building Arts in Charleston, South Carolina.

  4. $50,000 for development assistance for Desert Space Station in Nevada.

  5. $125,000 for the Center Theatre Group, of Los Angeles, California, for the Culver City Theater project.

  6. $500,000 for the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism for development activities related to the Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Celebration.

  7. $225,000 for the City of Providence, Rhode Island, for the development of a Botanical Center at Roger Williams Park and Zoo.

  8. $100,000 for the Newport Art Museum in Newport, Rhode Island, for historical renovation.

  9. $125,000 for the City of Wildwood, New Jersey, for revitalization of the Pacific Avenue Business District.

  10. $150,000 for Studio for the Arts of Pocahontas, Arkansas, for a new facility.

  11. $500,000 for the Southern New Mexico Fair and Rodeo in Dona Ana County, New Mexico, for infrastructure improvements and to build a multi-purpose event center.

  12. $500,000 for Dubuque, Iowa, for the development of an American River Museum.

  13. $500,000 for Sevier County, Utah, for a multi-events center.

  14. $50,000 to the OLYMPIA ship of Independence Seaport Museum to provide ship repairs which will contribute to the economic development of the Penn's Landing waterfront area in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

  15. $250,000 for the Lewis and Clark State College, Idaho, for the Idaho Virtual Incubator.

  16. $500,000 for Henderson, North Carolina, for the construction of the Embassy Cultural Center.

  17. $50,000 to the Alabama Wildlife Federation for the development of the Alabama Quail Trail in rural Alabama.

  18. $175,000 for the Urban Development authority of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for the Harbor Gardens Greenhouse project.

John Spencer's Statement on Supporting the President's Position on Iraq

"I have the greatest respect for Senate Majority Leader Bruno. He has been a major supporter of my campaign. We are both combat veterans. We would all like our troops to come home when the job is done; however, we need to make sure that the job is finished and that terrorism is defeated.

"I stand fully behind the President and the troops as they complete the job of assisting the Iraqi people in securing a stable democracy. I know the Iraqis will soon be able to defend themselves.

"Senator Clinton and I have significant disagreements on the war in Iraq as well as the war on terror as a whole. Unfortunately, the Senator's supportive rhetoric doesn't match with her divisive actions. By opposing the Patriot Act, voting to cut billions from defense and opposing vital weapon systems, Senator Clinton is hampering our nation's ability to wage the war on terror and is therefore making it more difficult to bring our troops home."

Absolutely not. Bush has given the largest boost in pay/benefits and funding increases to the VA in history. That being said the inherited force structure causes unbelievable strain on the ground force types. The Dems love to exploit this fact despite being the cause of it.

Which of these projects that McCain wants to cut is Constitutional?

First thing McCain has done that I like!!

Maybe if we all wrote / called our senators this would get more attention and save us money to use for the vets. Their health care should come before the arts...that should be paid for by the people there not all of us!!

Dear Senator Clinton:

As a Vietnam vet and retired sailor let me assure you that veterans and their families loath you with an intensity that is difficult to put into words. Rest assured that any national office for which you run will see protests against you that will make the Swift Boat Veterans' campaign of 2004 look like a protest from a high school debating club.

Yours in a strong military,

pabianice

It would be wonderful if Spencer could unseat the evil "she who must not be named". Stranger things have happened and we can always hope.

But, even if he is defeated, Spencer can wound her demonic heinous by forcing her to spend money she would need later in '08. Plus, if he can hammer her enough/provoke her just right, he may get her to go ballistic and discourage donors to her cause.

Smartest woman in the world...my lilly white arse.

It just alwasys seems that it is the Dems who...

Try to keep young men from enlisting.

Deny them the arms they need.

Not allow them to do what they are trained to do.

Make a social experiment out of the Armed Forces.

Attempt to prosecute them for carrying out their duties.

Lie about the heroics of the veterans in their own Party.

Deploy them as a party catering service for Democrat Presidents.

Brand warriors as "baby-killers"

etc.

etc.

etc.

Last week, I got a request for a donation from Jeanie Pirro. Is she still in the race?
