KABUL, Afghanistan NATO peacekeepers exchanged gunfire with protesters who attacked their base Tuesday in another day of deadly demonstrations in Afghanistan over the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, officials said. Three demonstrators were killed.
In neighboring Pakistan, 5,000 people chanting "Hang the man who insulted the prophet!" burned effigies of Denmark's prime minister and a cartoonist.
Denmark Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen called the protests "a growing global crisis" and appealed for calm. The Danish paper Jyllands-Posten was the first to publish the drawings, in September.

Well, it's a start.
well isn't THAT too too bad? about *^$#ing time...
Since when is NATO only giving peacekeepers three lousy bullets to defend an entire base?
(I'm assuming that's why the death count is so low...)
Three down, million to go.........
Handle em the same way Jordan handle the Palestinians.... and Reagan handled the violent hippies... If blood is what they demand... give it to them.
Cartoon protesters.
Yes, it was a typo. Thought that was self evident.
Exchanged gunfire with protesters? I'm sorry, but an armed assailant shooting at me is not a protester.
5000 protestors is a manageable crowd. If that is all Pakistan has to offer...then it was a non-event.
Way to go!
Next . . . no waiting . . .
An friend of mine was an Air FOrce MP. He referred to it as the Barney Fife Rule. They were given guns, but the ammo was stored in a locked box in the guard house.
He has some stories. One is about a time when a group of Korean protestors just about got their daily allowance of lead in .50 cal tablets. ANother was how he got relieved for his noghtly duty because he refused to turn over his pistol when a Korean envoy came to the base.
Title: ".........TROOPS OPEN FIRE..........."
.........versus............
Content:".........peacekeepers exchanged gunfire with protesters who attacked their base.
The TITLE would lead one to believe these were peaceful protestors who had no guns and were fired upon by those dirty, Jingoistic, Western, Genocidal, Imperialists.
The TITLE is a little misleading. Yes?
Why are they called "protesters"? If there was an exchanged of gunfire, that means the attackers were armed and attempting to kill the peacekeepers. They should simply be called "attackers" or "enemy forces", not protesters.
Hang this!
LOVES
ALWAYS AND FOREVER!
Every time I read one of these headlines I picture troops dealing with Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, the Jetsons, the Flintstones, Scooby Doo etc...
They don't.
Were they using "cartoon bullets" too? You know, the kind that don't kill you, just make you turn all black? :)
