Everything is getting better, why would people need sleep aids?
America has the highest rate of mental illness in the developed world, so this really isn't that surprising.
Better living thru chemistry. There's a pill for all your needs!
Remember, kids - JUST SAY NOT SO (some) DRUGS!!
And do as I say, not as I do!!
ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzZZZZzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzz
A hour with good book and two fingers of Chivas Regal on the rocks.
You'll sleep like a baby
My Missus was in renal failure for 6 months. They won't rule out the usage of OTC sleep aids + Ibuprofen as a possible cause.
Sylvia Plath is one of my favorite poets.
I am currently reading a "restored" version of "Ariel and Other Poems." Brilliant.
The cure is exercise and getting away from the computer......
something that I find difficult to do.
3mg melatonin and thats all she wrote for me ... only downside, is you get wierd dreams.
But it takes discipline to stop using it.
A very good insomnia reference:
Government better do something. People could use those pills to get intoxicated. We should put those behind the counter and make people sign up for the watchlist if they want sleeping pills. Just like sinus pills.
Ironically, I never needed them when I was drinking 2-3 pots a day.
Did I mention that I hate my doctor? Sure, it's not his fault that I'm a dumbass who can't do anything in moderation but I'm going to blame him anyway.
Benadryl works well - it's cheap, and no Rx is needed. A nice glass of Chardonnay or Pinot Noir also works nicely. It's all in the process, the ritual, y'know. As I really think about this, back in the days when I read my children bedtime stories, I always fell asleep before they did. Hmm. Add Golden Books to my list of undocumented sleep aid treatments. ;o)
The USA may have the highest incidence of MH problems, but that's because we actually try to detect, diagnose and treat. That doesn't mean we're crazier than the rest of the world. Just look at the wackos burning down embassies on any given day or chopping off heads. Now that's some mental illness for you!
i like percocets to help me sleep.
"Benzodiazepines including such tranquillizers and sleeping pills as Ativan, Dalmane, Librium, Restoril, Rivotril, Serax, Xanax and Valium are the best selling drugs in the history of medicine, with annual worldwide sales exceeding $21 billion. They are prescribed to 30% of the adult population in the world.
With such a lucrative market at stake, high-powered drug company promotional campaigns have convinced millions that tranquillizers and sleeping pills are needed to cope with life's everyday challenges.
Millions of prescriptions close to two thirds for women and almost 75 percent for refills are written each day worldwide beyond short term guidelines of 2 4 weeks established over 20 years ago. Doctors continue to prescribe despite known and often serious physical, cognitive and emotional side-effects.
Dependency occurs in an estimated 60% of people prescribed these drugs beyond a few weeks, and withdrawal can be lengthy and frightening.
The bottom line? Millions of people throughout the world are becoming addicted by prescription or become "Accidental Addicts" from trusting their doctors "to do no harm."
Withdrawal CAN be frightening. Been there, done that. NEVER again!

The population is aging, too - I wonder how much of the sleep problems women have is from hormonal fluctuations as they approach or enter the big M (menopause).
My mom had horrible insomnia during it, and at 41 I may be entering the beginnings of it and have started to wake up at 3 or 4 am each night and not be able to get back to sleep for a few hours.
When it's really bad I take a tiny bit of amitryptilline (leftover from a bout of panic attacks 5 years ago) and it completely zonks me out and I feel great in the AM. Non-addicting, too.
Tried the herb tea thing, all it did was make me head to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

IMO, corrupt executives, bad managers, bad supervisors, etc. have turned the workplace into a hell hole. That is why people can't sleep at night. Job stress plus high blood pressure are the norm in today's corporate workplace. Having worked in Human Resources for 12 years, IMO, workers' comp cases and litigation stems from employees being pushed to the brink by bad corporate management. It's no surprise that people are turning to sleeping pills after working 12-hour days which include harrassment coupled with the demand to do more and more.
Me too. I can't take prescription, it just makes me sick the next day. I take OTC Unisom and it works like a charm.
I know a lot of people who use Tylenol PM to get to sleep. I should think that would cut in on the profits of prescription sleeping pills.
NOW we know why sales of the NYT are down... people are buying sleeping pills instead.
