Last week's AFRO.com poll question concerning Sen. Hilary Clinton's remark that the House of Representatives closely resembles a plantation elicited many more responses than the weekly norm.
The poll question received more than a 150 percent increase in voter participation, with almost 90 percent voting the same way.
This unusually high number of responses, and the actual voting pattern raised some questions with the publisher. A full investigation, however; was issued after reading the response of one anonymous voter, "your poll is being hacked by freerepublic.com so the results shouldn't be taken too seriously."
AFRO staff quickly went to www.freerepublic.com, an online portal where conservative right-wing extremists discuss politics, race, religion, etc.
It was noted that the Web site directs freerepublic.com visitors to 'FReep" the polls of several media Web sites.
By posting the link of media polls on their site, Freepers can send hundreds, if not thousands of their loyalists to vote the 'right' way, causing a conservative outcome and thereby encouraging regular voters or media followers to believe the conservative voting pattern is the majority.
Many media sites including CNN.com, MSNBC.com, USATODAY.com and others get 'freeper' attention regularly. 'Freeping' is not illegal and therefore cannot be protected through the law.
Though we decided to post the results of our poll, we don't know whether or not the results have the usual integrity, but we have learned to what extreme conservatives might go to create a desired image.
The AFRO has no immediate plans to make changes in the survey process.
Right-Wing extremists.
The author of this "report" wouldn't know a member of the VRWC if he saw one.
Probably would have been thrilled if they were DU'ed.
I see they didn't point out that the democraticunderground.com also hacked ('kicked') the poll, attempting to drive votes the other direction.
HA!...i wish they'd take the time to read what's said on most of these threads...
more constitutional/rational than rightwing extremism...but what do fascist lefwingnutjobs know :D
This belongs in the Friday Silliness thread. It's, It's, POETIC!
Uhhhhh... how's that again?
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
I'm sure they have the usual integrity of online polls.
"Probably would have been thrilled if they were DU'ed."
I think the proper term for this is "DUmmied."
Yeah, *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*-we know what this is implying. What idiots. I would have actually taken this a little more seriously if they would have had the integrity to acknowledge DU's simular m.o.
IIRC, we've FReeped them several times. It's taken them this long to notice?
Cheese it! They're on to us!
They got a surprise tug from somebody outside their usual circle jerk.
Gee, it's rather embarrassing when we're caught trying to keep someone down.
I'll bring this up at our Wednesday night meeting of the white guys who rule the world.
Where's the site for liberal right-wing extremists?
Or the conservative right-wing moderates?
Conservative = extremist? Oh. Never mind.
Gosh, I'm a right wing extremist?
Damn, and here I thought most of my viewpoints were shared by the majority of Americans in virtually every valid poll...
Oh, wait, they are.
Same as illegal aliens are protected and given perks.
Nor that FReeping is apparently much better than "DUmmying" at moving polls...
If we had a link to "Aryan dot com" we could have a pair of racists bookends.
"The poll question received more than a 150 percent increase in voter participation, with almost 90 percent voting the same way."
Sort of like Milwaukee, Detroit and Philadelphia.
