Standing beside the head of the powerful California Teachers Association, Democratic state Treasurer Phil Angelides vowed Thursday to pump more money into education if he is elected governor, even if he has to raise taxes to do it.
While California ranks near the national average in per-pupil spending, that isn't good enough, said Angelides, who was in San Francisco to receive the endorsement of the 335,000-member teachers union.
The billions of dollars needed to pay for that boost in school spending will come from closing tax loopholes for big corporations, cracking down on tax scofflaws and boosting taxes on the richest Californians.
The state's wealthiest taxpayers already have received billions in tax breaks from the Bush administration, Angelides said.
"We can ask them to give some of that back," he said.

I hope the little Dem supporting group here will be very happy with Angelides as governor, since they are making an all out effort to defeat Arnold, and ensure that McClintock won't get elected Lt. Governor, while still insisting they are conservatives.

Sounds like the formula to lower the tax base in California dramatically. Driving out jobs is always a good idea.

Angelides seems to try to emulate Hillary, yet some people in this very forum, still prefer him to Arnold, who did not raise taxes, despite the pressure the Dems put on him.

Echos of Bush too. He raised federal education spending over 70% so far. Not to mention reciting the liberal mantra just he other day about "we need to train more teachers".
The "shortage of teachers" has got to be one of the longest standing BS stories around.

Sorry to any CA Freepers but I think Arnold should just drop out and let the socialists have the place. It's not worth the fight any longer when a moderate to left-leaning Gov like Arnold is considered an ultra-rightwinger and fought at every turn. Just hand em the keys and turn out the lights behind you it's over. On second thought don't bother to turn out the lights the electricity will run out soon enough anyway and they can just light a 36 million candles. Woops that may cause air pollution so I guess they'll just have to sit in the dark. Hell they're all blind anyway.
I think you forgot a couple of "links" in the "chain" that you just described:
"means higher salaries for *more* teachers" and
"means higher salaries for *more* union leaders".

Arnold saying that he's going to turn the government over to the democrats so they can run things the way they'd like. I just can't see him saying it in spanish.
