Apparently he was making sure he wasnt going to be drafted as a Republican presidential candidate.
He is leaving open the possibility of running as a Democrat.
As the lovely Ann Coulter once said, "Chafee is so stupid, he doesn't even realize he is really a Democrat."
Interesting that the rat senators from the Dakotas are voting for him. Must be elections coming up.
Lincoln Chafee (R-NARAL)
He was thinking it's time to retire. Keep an eye on Cantwell, Sarbanes and Dayton. Cantwell has no money, Sarbanes is retiring (and Michael Steele, a black conservative Republican is running) as is Dayton. I don't know who's running in Minnesota, but if it looks like we can pick up any of those seats, I'd be more than happy to kick Chafee to the curb.
Note the following southern senators who voted no. I would hope that whoever is their opponent next time their seat is contested will THROW IT IN THEIR FACE!
Landrieu, LA
Lincoln, ARK
Pryor, ARK - BOTH senators from Arkansas! Good grief, Arkansas, what are doing with these jerks in there?
Bill Nelson, FLA
Dixie is not going to stand for this.
SHEETS BYRD COMES THRU IN CLUTCH!!!
Chafee (RI) No ??
RI=RINO?
I wonder if Byrd voted yes to try to compensate for his KKK past. Remember the KKK was part of a nativist movement that also had anti-Catholic attitudes, not just anti-immigrant and anti-black.
