Well, I don't like him, but he's the first Dem I've seen who has said that they've got to win elections rather than attempt to use procedure to do it for them. Going back to the old "winning the election" strategy would be a massive plus for the entire country.

But then, they've probably done polls and found out that people are sick of their attempt at a procedural coup.

Democrats fear he would shift the court rightward on abortion rights, affirmative action, the death penalty and other issues.

Well, duh....

Obama is the Democrats answer to 204 years without a black man representing the Democratic Party in the Senate.

They are such Progressives.

Those great, bedrock, core American values of sodomy and abortion are at stake.

For Democrats to say they will vote one way or the other prior to the actual vote is like Osama Bin Laden offering a "truss." These guys and gals are rotten eggs and are not trustworthy. I'll wait for Tuesday to count my chickens.

To more effectively oppose Supreme Court nominees in the future, Democrats need to convince the public "their values are at stake" rather than use stalling tactics to try to thwart the president, said a senator who opposes Samuel Alito's confirmation.

Since the Democrat's "values" conflict with the values of most Americans, how is this new strategy going to work?

Barack has to get that finger up in the wind and try to figure out which way it's blowing.

Surprising to say, but Barack Obama is prudent, astute and highly perceptive on this one. After Harry Reid had all but promised no filibuster activity, Durbin, Kennedy and Kerry jumped into that tar pit without a moment's hesitation.

There is no overwhelming flood of evidence that Samuel Alito Jr. is ANY kind of radical. If anything, the belief that he is exactly the kind of reasoned calm voice the Supreme Court needs has been strongly reasserted, and ANY Dem'crat with a conscience knows what the vote should be.

Of course, there is the presumption that Dem'crats HAVE individual consciences. Their collective conscience is operating on the limbic level, about like that of an alligator.

Hey Obama, why not just evaluate the fitness of the judge and advice and consent accordingly. Even the moderate Democrats look at every issue through a political prism to the point where doing whats best for the country is NEVER considered.

if we're going to oppose a nominee that we've got to persuade the American people that, in fact, their values are at stake," Obama said.

"There is an over-reliance on the part of Democrats for procedural maneuvers," he told ABC's "This Week."

That's the whole problem, "their values" are different than the Democrats "values", therefore the Democrats have no choice but to resort to procedural maneuvers.

I do hope that Bush gets to nominate at least one more to the Supreme Court. The left of this nation will be a ton of fun to watch.

I thought Obama told Georgie S. on his show this morning that he'll be voting "no" on cloture, even though he doesn't believe in the filibuster.

Anybody else hear that?

IMO Judge Alito should not have answered so many questions. They're putting him through hell because he tried be honest.
