Bush says 2008 race wide open, Clinton 'formidable'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Friday the race for the White House in 2008 was wide open and called potential Democratic candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton "formidable."

"This is an unusual year because this is the first time there hasn't been a kind of natural successor in the party," Bush said in an interview with CBS News. His vice president, Dick Cheney, has ruled out a run for the top job.

Told that Clinton, a former first lady and current New York senator, seemed to be running pretty hard for the Democratic nomination, Bush replied, "She's formidable."

The president said it was "hard to tell" who the leading Republican candidates might be.

"The minute I start speculating, you'd make all kinds of news with it, and it would interject me in the race. ... Two wide-open primaries with no sitting vice president running in either primary, so this is -- I can't remember a time when it's been this open."

Bush said the presidency had not changed his priorities and he highly recommended the job.

"I will tell you, if given a chance to do it again, I would have said, 'You bet.' It's been a fantastic experience."

His biggest disappointment?

"The bitterness in Washington, D.C. ... the tone in Washington."

Then for goodness sakes, W, tell your attorney general to indict Andrew Grossman and Hillary for the campaign finance fraud before the statue of limitations runs.

Well, you know, they say Bush didn't really win in 2000 or 2004, so by my calculations, he is eligible for running for President in 2008 and 2012.

You know...I may be accused of wearing a tin foil hat...but, considering the way things turn out for President Bush...

I just wonder if Miers really WAS a serious candidate...

I just wonder if the photos have any thing bad....

I just wonder if the NSA scandal wasn't known it was going to be "leaked"....

BTW...did you see Leahy demanding a special counsel to investigate BUSH's relationship with Abramoff???

AND, NOW they also want restrictions on justices...because of Scalia playing tennis last week...

How many "special counsels" and investigations do the dems think they can demand???

Yet another example of how Bush is a hundred times smarter than they are. And? They'll take the bait. They're like dogs; they can't help it.

The Dems let the special prosecutor statute expire, finally coming around to our position on that BTW, so I must ask where are Fitz and all the other special counsels coming from?

don't worry about Hillery. We have plenty of data on her voters that we can use come election time, thanks to all that eavesdropping. This will make Nixon look like a peeping tom lol </tinfoilhat goading>

I forgot to mention that the Dems are REALLY mad tonight...because the justice department prosecutor that brought up the charges against Abramoff...

was given a judgeship the other day by Bush!!!! LOL

So....of course the conspiracy theory goes...that Bush promoted him to get him off the case...to protect Bush.

LOL....you can't make this stuff up.

Haliburton assures me that the holding camps will be open in plenty of time to "re-educate" the Democrat voters before 2008. </tinfoilhat goading>
