NEW YORK The Rev. Al Sharpton has asked for an apology from Cartoon Network for an episode of edgy animated series "The Boondocks" that shows the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. saying the n-word.
"Cartoon Network must apologize and also commit to pulling episodes that desecrate black historic figures," Sharpton, a civil-rights activist and former Democratic presidential candidate, said in a statement Tuesday.

So he has a problem with MLK saying the "n-word," but not with him denying the essential doctrines of the Christian faith, as he did in his lifetime. Huh.

I saw this episode, it wasn't offensive at all. MLK was watching television, and there was some rap music on with people acting like idiots and using the N-word here and there. He was disgusted at what his world had become in his absense. The storyline was that he didn't die, that he was in a coma for all these years, and then came back and saw this. It was nearly "touching". I'm a huge MLK supporter incidentally, and not a detractor.

I recently heard Sean Hannity refer to a fast Sharpton went on, in which he still ate things like cake. Does anyone know what he's talking about? I've never heard about this.

Sharpton got arrested for illegally protesting at the bombing range that was on that Puerto Rican island and while in jail he went on a "fast."

Gee, a professional racist with no obvious means of support criticises another professional racist who gets paid for promulgating racism in a ''cartoon'' strip?
As loatesome as 'Boondocks' is, Dullton surpasses by a factor of at least 100.

Vieques, wasn't it? He fasted, but only during the day and evidently gorged at night. Quite a few leftists have taken this tactic and seem to think they are truly suffering for their causes, one even compared himself to Ghandi. Fast while the cameras are on...

Another attempt to repress free speech, this time from the left. Sharpton must have noticed that his brand of street-hustler/preacher was one of the incidental targets of this Boondocks episode.
To: hiredhand
Isn't that an official KKK site? Hardly a credible source.
I don't know Martin Luther King, but I will say this. He knew he was going to die, and he kept on doing what he believed in. Find me a liberal today which you could say the same about.
I have often wondered what prompted his statements in the mountiantop speech the night before he died. Whatever it was, he knew something was coming down, and he didn't flinch, he just went about what he was doing. The man may or may not have held different beliefs from me on some social issues, I don't know, but I think even if he had been a Howard Dean Liberal, you'd still have to afford the man a large measure of respect for standing by his beliefs, no matter the cost.

I don't respect people who "stand on beliefs" that are wrong. No matter how solidly they stand by those beliefs; even to the death. NAMBLA is one such organization. They're steadfast in their beliefs, as well as being aggressive to their opponents. But I won't afford them any respect for the attribute of steadfastness, when their entire underlying premise is evil.
Militant homosexuals are similar. What's more is that they know they'll probably die from their actions as well! The suicide, murder, and domestic violence rates among the homosexual community is extremely high. So they continue pressing their agenda knowing they're going to die. They even applaud each other ceremoniously when they finally die from the hazards of their lifestyle. I ask, why respect the steadfastness of fools?
Personally, I have very littl knowlege of King, or what he did, or tried to do in this world. I know that he's "touted" as being a great civil rights pioneer for black people. But my opinion is (and it very well could be wrong!) is that the photo where Jesse Jackson is standing to his right on the balcony speaks volumes to all of us.
There are other sources for the same information on that racist website. It's not uncommon knowlege.
I might "respect" something in regards to it's sheer, unmitigated power in this world, but not on principle alone.

Well I gotta concede that the TV show could be better than the comic strip. I looked through a month of archives at the tvland web site and only found one reference to "our racist justice system" and one ad hominem insult to both GWB and Cheney, which are indeed juvenile left-wing stuff not racism.
The King Kong strips simply puzzled me though.

interesting read.
Though I think the fact the "luther" part of the name was never made legal is not really going to go anywhere.
The cpusa connections were quite interesting.
The plagerism was not surprising. But it does explain the refusal of coretta to allow any use of his papers for analysis.
