Roughly seven percent of the prostitutes in Amsterdam are infected with the HIV virus. This comes from a report covering risk groups in Amsterdam in 2003-2004.

242 prostitutes were tested in all. Of the transvestite and transexuals, 17 percent are infected with the virus. 11 percent of those addicted to drugs are also infected.The ones that dont use drugs, the percentage is just 3 percent. Prostitutes in the 'street walkers' district have 9 percent more chance of being infected than those in the window prostitution.

Of 52 clients of the prostitutes, none of them had HIV, but 80 percent admitted using a condom with sexual contact with the prostitutes. One third of the whores said that the condoms often fail.

Yep ...I actually had a long discussion with a pal (on a slow day) on this matter. At least prostitutes get paid .....there are too many who will sleep with a person just because he (or she) took them out for a movie/dinner/bought-them-a-birthday-card etc etc etc.
