If not, Pence should definitely be considered for a draft.

Several candidates showed up on both the best and worst lists. This could be a bloody primary season.

McCain has NO CHANCE of being nominated by the GOP. I'm hoping he's convinced to switch parties. I'd love to go to his going away party.
No, the top choice for the GOP is someone seen as supportive of the President's Doctrine on the WOT followed by two "perceived" conservatives. Forget the names and read the signal the folks are sending.
They want a conservative and they want someone unapologetically in support of the WOT to carry G.W.B.'s plan forward.
Look at the folks they don't want. Questionable (McCain/Terrorist rights) or outright hostile to the WOT (Hagel) followed by a northeastern Republican (Liberal) and someone seemingly weak in leadership (Frist) all linked together as questionable in their conservatism at best.
Considering most blogs tend to be "lighter" in their "conservatism" that are used for these surveys, it's telling McCain scores so badly. We know among the core of conservatives he's on the outs, but he can't even score well in "center right" blogs.
I know - to sad.
I loved how she handled her inquisition by the Democrats. She's smart as hell, has a vast amount of knowledge AND experience which goes back to the Reagan years. She's not just some text book educated idiot and she doesn’t chase a news camera like McCain. McCain is to the news like a lawyer is to an ambulance.
I think a Condi Rice would keep the Conservative movement going.

Yeah, apparently the second least desired nominee for '08. McCain, of course, first as least desirable. Since Hagel (Nebraska Senator) is one of al Jazeera's favorite soundbites, it's no wonder.

IMO, that is the signal the court has sent in a few cases notably this one and parental notification case. While the MSM/DNC are not happy, apparently the Court has uniamously agreed they aren't going to rush opinions through before a new Justice joins. They'll wait for Alito with O'Connor's consent.
Though, just because Kennedy went one way on this before, doesn't mean he will again. Trust the MSM/DNC/D.C. elite are cozying up to him now.

It is obviously true that Rice was tailor made for the job she is in, and that she supports (if not creates) the WOT. And thank goodness.
It is also true that she has never repudiated her pro choice position, and that she has never run for as much as school board. For better or worse, campaigning is a very different school which most Secretaries of States (even great ones) would have no clue as to how to go about it. It is also true that she continually says that she is not running.
My only point is that if that is our favorite....then we have problems.
I want a conservative who has proven he can get elected, and who (like Reagan who ran briefly in 1968, and hard in 76) actually wants the job.
Currently no one fits that mold. Not even close.

You are sadly mistaken. McCain has four things going for him: he is perhaps the only sure winner against Clinton; the open primaries in Michigan and New Hampshire greatly strengthen his candidacy; he has an outstanding pro-life record with much of the base; and the news media loves him (at least until he is nominated),
If the GOP apparatus believes that McCain is the only way to prevent a Clinton presidency, he will be nominated in a New York minute, with support from President Bush.
Seriously, whom would you prefer executing the war on terror and appointing federal judges? Clinton or McCain?
I would hold my nose and vote for McCain if that is what it takes to prevent a Clinton presidency.
