U.S. bracing for smuggling rings to retaliate

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. government is bracing for increased violence against Border Patrol agents as Mexican smuggling rings retaliate against a high-profile crackdown by federal law enforcement, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Wednesday.

While declining to elaborate on reports that smugglers may be planning contract-style hits on Border Patrol agents, Chertoff acknowledged "an uptick in violence" against the federal officers after months of intensified enforcement aimed at crushing immigrant- and drug-smuggling rings.

"I do think we have to be prepared for the fact that as we press hard on these criminal organizations, some of them will want to fight back," Chertoff told reporters during a media breakfast. But "we want to make it very clear that ... will not cause us to back off."

Chertoff also reiterated that Mexican drug wars and other violence have made parts of the U.S.-Mexican border unsafe. Hundreds have been killed in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico -- across the Rio Grande from Laredo -- as a result of a months-long war between drug cartels.

"When civilians go down to the border, they are taking a huge chance with their own lives," Chertoff said.

U.S. Rep. John Culberson, R-Houston, has a memento from his recent trip to the border: a shell casing. Culberson, visiting Laredo this month with other members of the Texas congressional delegation and Chertoff, picked up a spent AK-47 shell casing on the international bridge.

Isn't it crazy how liberal immigration laws and enforcement has spun out of control?

Bring em on. What we need is a barrier of predator style drones and robot sentries set on autofire with burrito seeking missles. ;-)

I want to see twin 15 foot fences, with sensors, and backed by the Guard.

Chertoff on Fox and Freinds today said NO to wall or fence that we will use satellite imaging and drones - high tech - only one little problem : we can take all the pictures we want of people coming over the border with plain old video cams and 35mm cameras : what stops the illegals is being arrested at the border..or that old tech a SOLID WALL or FENCE. This high tech border is pure BS. Bush wants the illegals here. Why I do not know I sure wish he would just come out and tell us why millions of illegals is good policy.,

The powers that be obviosly want the illegals to be here or they would put a stop to illegal immigration. When the illegals come across the border, drugs come with them. If we are smart enough to figure this out, and if we know how to stop it, why don't our leaders?

A recent poll taken in Mexico reveals that the majority of Mexicans believe they have every right to migrate/invade the US, take jobs, entitlements, education, welfare, health benefits, anything they please...and they don't have to obey US laws. The poll didn't ask if this is a two-way street. (Our sovereignty isn't worth the spit to blow it away.)

When it comes to drugs, too many in our political class and those favored by it actually profit off of the prohibition scheme we have today. Between crooked cops/politicians and forfeiture laws (but I repeat myself), there's a lot of money being made by those allegedly working for the common good.

The Council of Foreign Relations endorsed globalism, one happy hemisphere/trusted travelers/free trade/free travel...ala the EU. (And look what happened in the EU.) PC nonsense. We did everything possible to pump up Mexico and Central America's economies...NAFTA, CAFTA, shipping the US manufacturing base south, outsourcing everything but the kitchen sink.

Mexican bureaucrats gleefully tell the media that Mexico is 'integrating' with the US, and they don't intend to be the junior partner. Remittances from illegals are in the billions, even more than the drug trade, so Mexico's hooked. They have no intention of reforming, it's easier to bleed the US white. Another poll revealed that 24% of Mexico is already in the US (the poor and desperate), while half of the middle class is ready to head north. Nobody seemed to forsee the possibility that Mexicans would prefer life in a less corrupt country. How stupid is that?

A fence by itself does nothing without guards. It is there to slow people down so they can be caught. Without guards able to respond quickly, it just means that Jose will be at the construction site at 7:40 instead of 7:30.

It seems to be more wise, monetarily and politically, to annex Mexico and kick out their corrupt gov.

Excuse me, but if people from a foreign country are crossing our border illegally, and attacking our citizens, isn't that a WAR, and shouldn't we use our ARMY to repell them?

Nobody seemed to forsee the possibility that Mexicans should reform their country in the same fashion we would in the same situation, either.

Another reason to worry about Chertoff's IQ and/or his concern for this country.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. government is bracing for increased violence against Border Patrol agents as Mexican smuggling rings retaliate against a high-profile crackdown by federal law enforcement, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Wednesday.

My my...could this be evidence that CRIMINAL BEHAVIOUR also deos not stop at the Rio Grande? Nor does Gub'Mint Corruption, or OBL conspiracies!

I guess they are only smuggling the drugs and Islamic Terorists "Americans Won't Do!"

Yeah..."declining to elaborate"...that might mean having to eat crow and confirm that the Mexican Gub'Mint is actively invading the US to aid Narco-Terrorist operations, thereby putting our BP agents at EXTREME risk, without La Hacienda Blanco support or back-up btw!

Hmmm...."Chertoff also reiterated that Mexican drug wars and other violence have made parts of the U.S.-Mexican border unsafe.". Gee...what might make the border safer....hmmm...what could it be?

HOW ABOUT A FRICKIN' WALL!!! And a MINE FIELD might not be a bad idea now either!

"When civilians go down to the border, they are taking a huge chance with their own lives," Chertoff said.

There are civilians who have to live and work on the border every day, Mr. Sec.!

We had recent shootings in nearby towns, with coyotes smuggling illegals, and they are 150 miles from the border!

Wake Up America!
