Prosecutors intend to charge the soldier in the death of Italian agent Nicola Calipari, who was killed by U.S. gunfire as he was heading to Baghdad airport on March 4 after securing the release of an Italian hostage.
Rome prosecutors sought help from the United States on Wednesday in locating an American soldier believed to have shot an Italian secret service agent at a checkpoint in Iraq last year.

I saw a news ticker on the bottom of the TV screen the other day that a soldier was charged with murder in the case but I never actually heard the story.

Pffffttt... go to hell Italy.
You mean the agent that just got finished paying ransom for the commie 'jounalist' that was 'kidnapped'. The agent that was speeding down the road and ignored lights and warning fire. Italy that kept the operation from the USA because they knew we wouldn't let them PAY FOR FUTURE BOMB ATTACKS with a payoff.
Italy is responsible for the man being killed.

Quote: "He added that Italian paramilitary police had been asked to locate the soldier so prosecutors can notify him of the end of their investigation, a preliminary step before requesting an indictment, possibly on murder and attempted murder charges."
I don't suppose anyone caught this? Uhhh excuse me, Italy, if you send that force to the United States or anywhere near this soldier, you had better have a good supply of body bags because that is how your paramilitary force is going home, via bag.
This tears it. Congress needs to act to protect our service members, especially since they bear the brunt of protecting this damn planet. The law could say: Any foreign judicial official, prosecutor, member of a tribunal or investigative body who issues or is involved in issuing an indictment or arrest warrant in connection for acts of U.S. military personnel in a war zone without first obtaining the consent of the U.S. is guilty of a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison. In addition, if that jugde, court, or tribunal takes affirmative acts in furtherance of enforcing said indictment or warrant (such as actively seeking to arrest or detain said military personnel), those person(s) are guilty of a felony punishable by DEATH.
There, see how you deal with our paramilitary squads dykwads.

All over the Middle East, one of the most likely results of running a checkpoint can be a hail of bullets. War zone or not. The media, especially European, "conveniently" forgets to add that little tidbit.

I am a middle-aged Marine Mom. They would have to take that soldier over my dead body and the bodies of thousands like me.

It appears to me that this action is motivated by Italian leftists of whom there are many. Many of their judges are of the leftist variety. They are motivated by the desire to embarrass the U.S. by saying that we are not cooperating with them. The motivation is purely political. Nothing will come of this since the soldier was doing his duty and did not act improperly. In any event if he did act improperly that would be an issue for the U.S. military to decide and not any Italian Court. The whole affair is an attempt to discourage good relations between the U.S. and Italy as Italy has supplied troops for Iraq and supports U.S. policy.Do not blame the Italian government.
