New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin apologized Tuesday for some of the comments that he made during a Martin Luther King Day Rally in the city Monday.
Nagin said that his intention was to comfort African-American residents, especially those feeling unwanted during the rebuilding process, but he said in doing so he inadvertently offended others.
I apologize to any resident in this city that may have been offended, he said. That was not my intention. If I could take anything back, I thought the Uptown comment was inappropriate. If any people are working hard to rebuild this city, its the people Uptown.
In his speech, Nagin had said that despite what some Uptown might be saying, that New Orleans would again be a majority African-American city.
Nagin also apologized for invoking God in his speech, saying that it was inappropriate.
Nagins speech included a statement that God wanted New Orleans to be majority African-American.
Unfortunately, everything I say today is scrutinized to the nth degree, he said. It was Martin Luther Kings birthday. I thought it was appropriate to address some of the concerns and frustrations Im hearing from the African-American community.
I was wondering if he was going to backpedal harder than his "chocolate milk" comment...
now is Hillary going to apologize for her MLK day comments?
By making racists comments that MLK himself would have puked over? I think not. I believe, seriously, that Nagin is losing his mind..
I heard he said it would be "a chocolate city". I want to hear the quote itself, not what he press claims he said.
Heh. Wow, someone's quick with the Photoshop.
L M A O!
The typical apologizing that anyone was offended, and not for what he actually said. Typical liberal "apology" that really isn't an apology.
Ya gotta admit, he provided some great comedy material.
Why didn't Nagin just go ahead and say, "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever."
What we need are for these jerks to find comments unappropriate before making them
he also said that God hated NO. this is patently wrong. if God hates anybody down there, it's Neglin.
what a cLymer
He still means "whites need not apply".
He can take back whatever he likes, but we know what's in his heart,.........now...........
Nagin's been watching too many Blaxploitation flicks.
Ha! That is too much.
hey! it just dawned on me - if he wants a chocolate city, does that mean he wants to ply the hershey highway?
with or without the gerbil?
