Senators to examine Mississippi and Louisiana post-Katrina

WASHINGTON - A delegation of senators heads to the Gulf Coast today to check the progress after Hurricane Katrina.

The group will stop in Gulfport, Mississippi, and Saint Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Both areas were nearly wiped out by Katrina, and have allegedly been overlooked compared to New Orleans.

That opinion is shared by Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, who heads the delegation. She thinks the federal government hasn't done enough to help large sections of the Gulf Coast.

Collins is hoping more money and more attention can be funneled there in the year ahead.

The administration's rebuilding czar, Donald Powell, will tell the senators that two top priorities for Mississippi are debris removal and temporary housing for evacuees.

Collins is interested whether Powell has the authority he needs to do his job.

Senators from Hell? or Senators with open minds?

Lately Senators means "asassins" from the Democrats out to tar and feather our President in time of war and accuse him of everty damn thing from hang nails to holy hell fire.

Is anyone allowed to set a trailer yet or are they still of the opinion that only drunks, burglars and drug dealers live in them?

I appreciate that Senator, however, I would appreciate MORE if you would act like a REPUBLICAN when you are on the Senate floor!!!

Thanks for the ping, Cajun.

The last federal official to oversee the recovery in Louisiana and Mississippi rode the results right into the White House--Herbert Hoover, put in charge of coordinating Red Cross relief efforts in 1927 after the Great Flood. However, he differed from today's politicians... apparently he was more interested in the publicity for his 'good deeds' rather than actual results.

(tongue planted firmly in cheek)

Mr. Powell is a good man. I hope he is incredibly successful in his work.
