Medicare and Medicaid will need to be reformed in a big way. I suggest that Congress repeal the stupid and complex drug benefit. Also, Medicare should be turned into a catastrophic coverage plan with high deductible, forcing people to buy basis insurance.

Hospitals now cant turn away people who have no means.

But hospitals can, and do, go out of business - unless, of course, they have the right friends in high places.

Government health policy is frankly Leninist, and has been since 1984 Federally, and since the 1970s in the states.

Lenin's dictum, "The worse, the better" is essential for understanding EVERY SINGLE ACT of health policy makers.

The People will never consent to the seizure and destruction of 14% of the private economy - unless it collapses first.

Which it will.

one of the reasons that HillaryCare failed was that a full 75% of its rules/regulations pertained to punishment for those who sought health care outside of HillaryCare, and for the health providers who gave it.

$50 000 fine or five years in prison for treating a patient without permission. Not clear if emergencies were excepted.

However, rules like this are essential in America to force the middle class into Medicaid.

Without them, there will just be a rebel private sector, which will not be permitted.

Ehrlich isn't helping anyone here except the Unions and Insurance companies - Special Interest. It will cost the taxpayers in Maryland a bundle in the end. I do not think this will pass the Constitutional test in court if Wal-Mart decides to challenge this and I hope they do.

What I haven't quite figured out about this whole thing is how the government can mandate to an employer what benefits they provide. But then, I'm one of those moss-backed conservatives who just stand in the way of "progress", I guess.

Not clear if emergencies were excepted.

I don't think so, but I'm also not sure. One thing that was notable about HillaryCare is that Hillary exempted herself and the Clinton family from having to use HillaryCare. Tells you a lot about the caliber of care she knew most Americans would be stuck with.

As I understand it, Erlich vetoed this bill.

They overrode his veto.

Gosh, if my employer pays for my health care, I won't have to. It'll be free! I'm voting for whoever passed that law!

God willing, we will NEVER see HillaryCare come to fruition.

Unfortunately, there is an entire campain going on to show how bad the present health care system is. In the NYTimes there was a series of articles about the horror of bills and payments after a serious illness, and how much better a single payer system is.

I suspect they try to soften the blow when Hillary will be the candidate and asked about her "main achievement".

Also interesting: we have female chief executives in Chile, Liberia, Finland (most likely), Germany, Ireland (?)

there is a two pronged attack happening in order to dismantle health care and force a socialist healthcare system. parties involved may not realize it, acting upon their own self interest, but are still contributors to the cause.

the first prong is lawyers and their frivilous lawsuits a la john edwards. doctors and pharmaceutical companies are both hindered by these.
the second is illegal aliens recieving free healthcare and bankrupting hospitals in the border states.

soon we will reach a breaking point and hitlery or another commie politician will step in and offer this "AMAZING" solution! socialist healthcare, aka government enforced death.

"In addition, it was so oppressive, it would have drastically curtailed our freedom of movement within the domestic US by requiring citizens to obtain government permission to travel outside of their health care region to vacation or attend to business in another region"

omg, r u series????? THIS is why they call her hitlery!

if anything like this ever passed, it would be time to leave america. the problem is, there really isnt anywhere else to go.

The article goes on to state that Wallmart already spends 7% of the payroll on health insurance, which costs the employee, $23/mo for an individual and about $60/mo for dependent coverage. In addition, Wallmart offers health savings plans with MATCHING funds, up to $1000. So, basicly, this bill was not aimed at Wallmart, but as a precedent to expand Hillarycare into other states, where the high limits will not exist. The article went on to say that Rhode Island is already working on a bill with lower limits and the next two states that the unions are getting ready to go into are New Hampshire and Washington.

The last statement is what the liberal DUmmies can't comprehend. They think that business can still be in business after giving away so many goodies to the employees just because the Government mandates so.

I don't think a vast majority are. GM jumped on this bandwagon to deflect attention from the company's utter failure to create a profitable business.

He vetoed the bill. The legislature voted to override the veto.

Oh, they realize it.

omg, r u series?????

Yep!!! HillaryCare was going to be one of the most oppressive systems we would ever have seen. Somewhat like McCain's CFR that has impacted our First Amendment rights.
