A former aide to Rep. William J. Jefferson (D-La.) pleaded guilty yesterday to bribing the congressman to promote high-tech business ventures in Africa.
Brett M. Pfeffer, 37, of Herndon, a former president of a McLean investment firm, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Alexandria to conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official and aiding and abetting the bribery of a public official in 2004 and 2005.

Isn't this the Congressman who demanded the National Guard rescue his house from the flooding in NA and then spirited away a trunk full of documents?
I seem to remember this is the guy, but I could be wrong.

I am sure this is the last time we will hear about this.
To: Carling
Of course in places like Louisiana, corruption involving elected officials really isn't front page news anyway. ;-)

This is the Rep. Jefferson that had the National Guard take him into the flood to retreive belongings from his house, including a safe and some other papers the FBI wanted.

I'm pretty sure you are correct, Lurker.
I remember Rush talking about Jefferson's possible "Abuse Of Power" incident with the Louisiana National Guard for close to an hour during one of his Post-Katrina shows.
It sounds like someone got to that laptop, crates and pieces of luggage the scumbag managed to recover from his home.
I've a feeling that Jefferson spilled his guts to try to cut the best deal.
Jack.

"Congressman William Jefferson"
What relationship is the congressman to William Jefferson Clinton?
Both are black and both are crooks.
To: Carling
I didn't figure that Duke Cunningham was the only congressman lining his pockets. Wouldn't surprise me if half a dozen on both sides of the aisle go down, especially if rumors be true and Cunningham wore a wire.
