Schwarzenegger's re - election chances up
The Argus ^ | Jan. 13, 2005 | Steve Geissinger

A recent poll shows the born-again "moderate" Republican governor has gained back some popularity, especially in the Bay Area, and is now in a dead heat with Democratic competitors.

"Our survey demonstrates that Schwarzenegger's retreat from the more conservative rhetoric and agenda he brandished during the latter part of 2005 has paid off among middle-of-the road voters," said Melinda Jackson, director of the Survey and Policy Research Institute at San Jose State University.

The governor's job performance rating among voters in a Democrat-leaning state has climbed from 36 percent positive and 53 percent negative in September, to 40 percent positive and 51 percent negative this month.

"Arnold makes that situation considerably worse"

====

You should educate yourself.

THIS Is the real problem:

California's fiscal straightjacket. The initiative process has tied lawmakers' hands

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1558353/posts

"A major reason is that more than 70% of state spending, which totals a projected $126.6 billion in the fiscal year starting July 1, is already accounted for before he even begins the budget process. That money is mandated to be spent for specific purposes and nothing else. It's a fiscal straitjacket that makes it impossible for the state to make logical choices and put its tax dollars to work where they may be most needed.

.. Proposition 98 in 1988, fixed education spending permanently at roughly 40% of the General Fund budget. Proposition 98 still is a major factor driving budget-making in the state. In the coming year, state spending on education from kindergarten through community colleges will total about $40 billion, or a little more than 40% of the General Fund.

The governor says nothing will solve the state's budget problem "other than getting rid of those automatic spending formulas." The only way to do that is a sweeping reform of state government, something that is not on the horizon unless people begin demanding it. All California voters can do for now is to keep things from getting worse by rejecting the new ballot-box budgeting initiatives that are certain to come."

===

Arnold understands the problem that's why he put Prop. 76 on the ballot.

"Arnold makes that situation considerably worse"

So, you take my comment about regulation and try to change it to fiscal policy? Fine, FO, let's talk fiscal policy.

NO ONE forced Arnold to raise HIS projected spending levels in the budgets HE PROPOSED to the legislature. ALL of the spending constraints on the budget are as PERCENTAGES. Thus the only way to cut any of them is to cut all of them, across the board. It may look over-simplistic, but it's the only legal means.

That's what McClintock proposed, and why. The only way to make do under such circumstances is to have an intimate knowledge of the operations of every department in State government, something Arnold STILL lacks.

So instead your "fiscal conservative" has increased spending 25% in just three years and increased state debt by nearly 50%. All you offer in his defense is more dishonest spin.

A CA guy: So you say but then you seem to advocate surrender on social issues to save your stock portfolio and assets. Too bad, whether Ahhhhhnold and Warren Buffet and Planned Barrenhood Wilson like it or not, the GOP stands for more than your bank account and baby-killing or it stands for nothing at all. Ahhhhnold seems ready to surrender your bank account too. Which leaves his support for baby-killing, fudgies, alternative behaviors of various sorts, gun grabbing and his wife's Uncle Ted the Swimmer. What a guy! What a hero!

As to conservatives, actual conservatives, voting for Ahhhhhnold, unless he changes his act and gets rid of Buffett, Parskey, Wilson and RINO Reardon and any other pro-abort, pro-fudgie termites like them, actual Republicans and actual conservatives should say, we'll pass and wait for better candidacies and the resultant suffering will make our job easier in the future when the social issue surrender monkeys or revolutionaries (posing as "Republicans") and their gulls are stripped of their jobs, their contracts and their influence in state government. Then there will again be TWO parties in California and restoration can begin using a base of social issues.

Parskey and Company can move to Vermont. That state was already wrecked by the strategy you are advocating and when the worthless Vermont RINO Governor Richard Snelling keeled over dead of a heart attack, voila: he left Vermont to Governor Howard the ARRRRRRGH Dean (actual abortionist formerly of Manhattan) and political centerfold boy for Moveon.org, Senator Judas Jeffords (apparent IQ <4.5 who went "independent" because Bush was insufficiently enslaved to the public skewel propaganda ministry and to the "global warming" whackos, and Leaker Leahy who were already in place. They make Bustamente look like Robert Welch politically.

Bernie Sanders, who used to be elected as a Socialist Party candidate, was for years the most conservative politician (not saying much) in Vermont (California with a smaller population, more cows per capita, more modest mountains and a more easterly location. The Vermont GOP is run, for the most part, by the same sort of cowards or quislings as run and have temporarily ruined the California GOP.

To every real Republican and real conservative: Crush the quislings. For all the things that matter, carry on.

You can change your song and dance all night if you want, but the same true bottom line point I made is that you go for changes in the primaries, then in the real election you vote for the Republican.
If you don't like the Republican and refuse to vote or vote for a third party oddball you are in fact kissing the Democrat's butt by aiding them to winning the election.

You can claim your conservative pedigree all day long, but if your behavior helps get liberal Democrats elected, you are in fact no conservative at all.

Another indication of your own insecurity. I'd prefer to leave you alone as I find you rather pathetic, however lurkers will be glad to see you identified as a herd follower.

Repetition is probably intentional because for some people it takes a long time for logic to seep into the brain.

Your entire repertoire of posting seems to consist of nothing but personal insults, because you lost the argument a long time ago. And you seem to be proud of it. How pathetic. Everyone, except you can see that.

Hey dude! You're entitled to those opinions if you are determined to hold them near and dear to you heart, but you're not makin any converts no matter how many times you and the handful of other ex-posse members pound away on your bogus theme song!!!

Even though in normal circumstances you'd possibly be convinced by the actual factual stuff posted by true Conservative Republicans like calcowgirl, Carry_Okie, Amerigomag, ElkGroveDan and many others equally endowed with above average intelligence and inspiring posts... You would still cling desperately to your rightful, but untennable position like a drowning man!!! Just out of pure bullheaded stubborness, right???

Trite, but true: "You can convince a man against his will, but he's of the same opinion still" (Burma Shave)

Allow me to make a minor correction to characterize "moderate" hypocrisy on this point and why it is vacuous:

'You can claim your Republican pedigree all day long, but if your behavior helps screw conservatives and get liberal Democrats elected, you are in fact no Republican at all.'

Conservatives had held their noses and supported Pete Wilson, twice. You moderates have yet to reciprocate, having pulled the same crap even in Ronald Reagan's day. I still remember what the RINOs did to Bill Simon, which is how we got Gray Davis re-elected in the first place.

Never again.

Anybody who wouldn't vote for the Republican in the major elections would not be any form of conservative.

So you would let the Democrats win the statehouse again, just because McClintock couldn't/didn't win in 2003?

This "sending a message" bit is nothing more than a vote for the Democrats, just like what is being done to Santorum just because he helped Specter (who, BTW, helped push through the Alito hearings). In the end, it's a numbers game.

Just think if the "stay at home" crowd actually voted Republican--the Democrats would never be in power again.

But, I guess losing is OK to some people.

Anyone who does not vote for the conservative in a primary is not a Republican.

Just what a DU disrupter would post IMO. You make the attempted change in the primary then vote the Republican in the main election, no matter what. If you get the voter base up, you get more and more strongly conservative people in office. If you choose your "I'm to good to vote for a Wilson" BS, you are being only useful to the Democrats. You would be doing McSabotaging of the conservative vote.

I think you should go for all the big changes in your party representation in the primaries where a Democrat can't get the victory. Then you back whoever the Republican is in the regular election, whether it would in 30 years be a McClintock possibly or this year a Schwarzenegger.
