Isn't it funny how when anything goes wrong within the federal Liberal party -- no matter how small or how significant -- it's never the fault of the party or its leaders.
Apparently there's always some reasonable explanation for why people are embezzling funds, grossly mismanaging money or ripping off Canadian workers and employees.
Just this week the Liberals are saying it's not their fault an inappropriate election ad went on their website claiming their Conservative opponents would institute some kind of martial law by bringing troops into Canadian cities.
Apparently that was just the fault of some "idiot" and it shouldn't reflect the position of the Liberal party, according to Liberal MP Keith Martin.
CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION
"Some idiot inadvertently sent out an ad that was not approved and not supported by the party with the 11 (ads) that were supported," said Martin, who represents the Victoria-area riding of Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca.
It's not the party's fault, said Martin. They had nothing to do with it.
Sure, that's believable. Some schmuck off the street decides which ads go on the party's website and which do not. It's not the party's fault. Right.
It's never the party's fault.
The sponsorship scandal wasn't the party's fault, either, say Liberals. It was just a handful of rogue individuals responsible for all that corruption and fraud.
It's not the party's fault the RCMP has launched a criminal investigation into allegations of insider trading around income trusts. It's the opposition's fault, say Liberals.
It's not the party's fault more than $1 billion was wasted on the federal gun registry. They had some software problems. Not their fault.
This week Liberal Treasury Board president Reg Alcock was blaming the Employment Insurance scam on former prime minister Brian Mulroney, saying the surpluses in the account that have ballooned to $48 billion are his fault.
Never mind the fact the accumulated surplus more than doubled to $48 billion from $21 billion since 1999 alone, because government continues to charge employers and employees more in premiums than they pay out in benefits.
Not the Liberals' fault.
It's never the Liberals' fault.
NDP MP Pat Martin (Winnipeg Centre) summed it up nicely during an all-candidates debate this week.
He says the Liberals are "institutionally psychopathic."
"They don't know the difference between right and wrong," said Martin.
Which is true. And it's what comes, sometimes, from being in government too long.
ENTITLEMENT AND ARROGANCE
The feeling of entitlement and arrogance within the Liberal party is so strong the mere idea of accepting blame for anything -- even when wrongdoing is directly linked to senior party officials -- is inconceivable to them.
It's a sure sign there's a need for change in government. And it's that sign voters are picking up on. They smell it and they know it's time.
It's the main driver behind the Liberals' recent drop in the polls.
No matter what happens in the Liberal party, it's never their fault.
But at the end of the day, when you have so many things go wrong on your watch, you're to blame whether you're willing to accept responsibility or not.
For the first time in nearly 13 years, it looks like the Liberals are finally being held accountable for their actions.

Looks like the liberals in both the US and Canada read from the same playbook. Here, too, NOTHING is ever their fault. They blame it on "some idiot", incompetency, being uninformed, bumbling, ineptness, or unqualified individual. So by their OWN ADMISSION, they are unfit to rule yet they ask the people again and again to vote for them.
Working folks paid for those surpluses. They want their money returned.
Down with the Liberal bastards!!
The natural result of socialism is the state is always right. The people are always wrong.
Even the Globe and Mail is recommending a change.
