The Crying Game (Leftists jump the shark)
Jameswalcottcom ^ | 1/12/06 | Wolcott

Posted on 01/12/2006 12:47:15 PM PST by pabianice

It seems as if it was only this afternoon--because it was only this afternoon--that conservative bloggers were flopping all over each other to express their boredom with the windbag monotony of the Alito hearings, trying to outdo each other with yawns, snores, and zzzzzzzzzz's.

Then Mrs. Alito suffered a case of the weepies that was so dramatically well-timed and patently maudlin that I was reminded of the classic stage direction in Private Eye (takes out onion, wipes away tear), and suddenly the proceedings turned into a soap opera with Fox News commentators arriving on cue to deplore the toll taken on innocent bystanders in these brutal proceedings. From their sympathetic clucks and disapproving tones you would have thought Alito had been subjected to a Stalinist show trial presided over by Randi Rhodes in a bad mood rather than honey-tongued Lindsey Graham asking Alito with tender solicitude, "Are you a bigot?" The hypocritical highpoint came when Newt Gingrich, who during his reign as Speaker of the House did more than any political leader in recent memory to dump raw sewage into the political discourse, had the gall to invoke Joseph Welch's famous rhetorical throwdown of moral umbrage during the McCarthy hearings--"At long last, sir, have you no decency?"--to showboat his phony disgust over this trivial episode of upset feelings.

Yes, so heartsick were conservatives over this lady in distress that they immediately hurrahed Mrs. Alito's walkout as the humanizing moment that would win the public's sympathy vote and put Judge Alito's candidacy over the top and assure him a seat on the Court. If Alito is confirmed, Mrs. Alito and Judge Clarence Thomas's wife can commisserate by exchanging monogrammed crying towels as their men folk roll back women's rights and civil liberties and go duck hunting weekends with Scalia.

Just when you thought the Left could not become any more loathsome...

Bravo, "Vanity Fair."

The Left's tin ear regarding how Americans really feel dooms them unless thay can keep their vulture's grip on the courts.

I was thinking this morning that the classic leftist defense of the democRAT bullies would be to accuse Mrs. Alito of staging the whole event.

They are laughably predictable.

The author failed to note that Graham went on to say, no, you are not a bigot. AND, he also seems to fail to comprehend that Graham was apologizing for what was very much like a Stalinist show trial in the farce questioning perpetrated by the democrats.

Vanity Fair: Vanity Vanity, all is Vanity and chasing after the wind. A thought befitting this vain publication.

The left has absolutely no idea how many people have been disgusted by the inquisition their senators subjected Judge Alito to.And just when you think that it's not possible for them to sink to any lower depths, their media arm chimes in . Incredible!

It WAS a Stalinist show trial and if the 'Rats had their way, they would not only not confirm Judge Alito, they would have him hauled out and shot.

I'd like to see Mr. Wolcott read this article aloud in FRONT of Judge Alito, face-to-face, man-to-man.

Forgive me, fellow freepers, and I generally don't write such things, but I think Mr. Wolcott is a pussy.

Hillarious. They'll wipe away tears whenever they see Slick Willy rearrange a pile of stones into a cross on a beach in Normanday or the Gores make out on stage. They'll swoon over Clintigula "feeling their pain" or being "deeply saddened". And they'll do multi-episode expositories on the effect of Billy boy's serial philandering on Hillary's psyche.

But the wife of a conservative showing emotion? Staged. Fake. Conservatives don't feel emotion.

Granted, we are opposed to what El Rushbo has referred to as the "Oprafication of America," which basically means people letting their feelings overrun their higher brain function, but an offer of consolation can do things to even the most emotionally hardened person that all the slings and arrows in the world can't. We're used to insults; kindness catches us off guard.

Thanks Pam for posting this sewage.

Their insensitivity is apparently boundless, turning the obscenity that has been thrust into America's living rooms into some sort of intelligent rationale proceeding, all wrapped up by "Mr. Word Merchant" here, as if what he describes so melodramatically, is really happening.

This sewer backup is theirs to enjoy wholeheartedly.

The Dems are dead meat. Finished.

Time has passed them by.

The honest hardworking average American citizen is fed up with this national disgrace...and they will reward these monsters in kind when the time comes.

In a way it's fitting and just that these traitors are revealing themselves in this totally fulsome way. No critic could make up this dreadful behavior.

God Bless America.
