Controversial Web Site Fuels Day Laborer Debate

HERNDON, Va. -- The debate between the Herndon Minutemen and day laborers heats up with the arrival of a new controversial Web site.

The Herndon Minutemen is a group that conducts surveillance of day laborers in Herndon, Va.

"I am sure there are racists in this country, but they're not in my organization," said George Taplin, president of the Herndon Minutemen.

He is responding to a new Web site, weareracist.com. The site was created by LULAC, the League of United Latin American Citizens.

"We thought the best thing to do was to set it up as weareracist.com. We do believe this whole thing is racially motivated, to prevent low-income individuals from trying to feed their families," said Brent Wilkes, president of LULAC.

Wilkes said the Minutemen violate the civil rights of laborers and potential employers by recording license plate numbers and taking photographs to submit to local and state agencies, like the IRS.

Wilkes said photographs posted on LULAC's website capture Minutemen in action at the Herndon Day Laborer Center opening in December. He said the "we are racist Web site" turns the tables, and gives the Minutemen a taste of their own medicine.

"They can do whatever they want to do. It's not affecting us. It's not going to stop us," said Taplin.

Taplin contends that the Minutemen support legal immigrants, but illegal immigrants benefit from U.S. medical services and jobs, without paying taxes.

"As citizens we're responsible for maintaining the peace, maintaining the law and what we want to do is see the law enforced," said Taplin.

"They're amateurs; they're not law enforcement people. They should leave the law to law enforcement officers," said Wilkes.

The images that currently appear on LULAC's Web site were gathered locally. However, LULAC officials said the site will soon include pictures of Minutemen from across the country.

I did not read LULAC's website, but I have to say: they are the group that initiated a lawsuit and got a consent decree after they sued the State of Florida years ago, resulting in the requirement here and elsewhere that all teachers become certified to teach "ESOL" courses (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

And, I have to say, after listening to comments from other teachers for years about this burdensome requirement, LULAC's time and money and energy would have been better spent on requiring kids and their parents to maybe learn some English if they are planning to be in this country and attend school. I have yet to meet one teacher who is glad that LULAC filed this lawsuit. Not one.

How about.......

League of United European American Citizens.

LUEAC, nice ring to it.

And we will put up a web site.. We will call it... wearebeaners.com and start posting mug shots of the illegal aliens that show up in the various State's most wanted lists.

That'll go over really big. Yep. Big.

< /tard >

How do these jerks sleep at night? This is the most offensive, blatantly racist kr@p I have seen outside of a Klan rally.

I suppose they are above the ire of we mere American Citizens, they being our "economic saviours"

The Minutemen's goal to support the rule of law and their commitment to assist law enforcement is commendable. I, for one, am thankful for their efforts.

Call me crazy, but I really think that racial supremacist groups like LULAC and their "brothers" at La Raza really ought to refrain from bandying the R-word about.

Not that they ever had much brains or sense, I suppose.

On the plus side, I am pleased to see that this border security thing is really getting under the skin of the libs.

From DTN: LULAC

LULAC receives large amounts of funding from immensely wealthy foundations. From 1990 through 1995, for instance, the Ford Foundation gave grants to LULAC totaling $1.36 million. A multi-billion dollar entity with nearly limitless discretionary income at its disposal, the Ford Foundation has given even greater sums than this to other open borders groups such as the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), the National Council of La Raza, and the National Immigration Forum. LULAC receives considerable funding from major corporations like Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Chemical Bank, Chevron, Chrysler, General Motors, Ford Motor, General Electric, Lockheed, Rockwell, Southwestern Bell and Quaker Oats. LULAC has also received funding from: the Verizon Foundation; the AT&T Foundation; and the Open Society Institute.

Apparently, this is another Soros Lackey group, too.

Oh, and just in case you forgot about their "brothers" at La Raza (Spanish for "The Race")

National Council of La Raza

There's more juicy stuff floating about on La Raza, of course. The most famous is the "Por La Raza, todo...." quote, which if you translate the whole thing reads like a rehash of Nazi propaganda.

I have been reading here about US citizen's concerns about illegal immigration. I applaude their work important and consider it necessary post 9-11. I have been recently told about a battle going on in Southern Calif of people trying to protect us from invasion. It is not the Minutemen, but just as needed. I don't mean to be seen as spamming this list of great patriots. There is a group that is fighting the creeping danger to us all, illegal immigration. Take a look at their battle on and off the streets of California.

A little history on LULAC. I know a lady, 82 years old, Gloria Deverick, whose father Joe Garza from Spain, started LULAC. Both he and Gloria were and still are, against illegal immigration as well as free benefits. What the press won't publish, and what LULAC hardly admits to, is the correct history. LULAC was taken over by, as she still alleges, "criminals and politically corrupt people." For some contrary insight, read some information from, "Hispanics for Secure Boarders."

Another quote from Mrs. Deverick, she said that one figure in LULAC said that, "the White House will be painted brown." Also, a connected organization, Raza Onida, "flys the Communist flag." I haven't confirmed any of what she alleges, but she is still very lucid and committed to setting the record straight.

Isn't something like this legally actionable? I would think that accusing someone in a public venue of being racist would fall under defamation/slander/libel statutes.
