Thailand beaches are very popular with European tourists. I'm sure she was one of many of white girls and guys there. She was there with a friend. They were on the beach when the victim got a call from her mother on her cellphone and walked along the beach talking to her mother while her friend went back to the cottage a short distance away.
Normally, she would have been safe.......normally. I would like just 5 minutes in a cage with these 2 cowardly murderers. OK 30 minutes!
Baptists or buddhists were behind this surely.
Third World Moral Superiority Ping!
It sounds like you ARE blaming the victim.
No mention of how heinous the attackers' actions are, either.
There's a $64000 question here somewheres...
Thai "Miranda": You have no right to an attorney. Anything we beat out of you will be used against you. We may maim you just for sport. Now shut the f*** up.
Were they the practioners of the religion of peace?
Did I win?
I'll bet that if convicted, they don't spend 15 years on death row.
There was a time when being the citizen of a civilised country meant that said nation would take any violation of your person as a national affront. As a Russian poet once said, "Let us return to the past, and what progress there will be!"
Regards, Ivan
As well they shouldn't. Man... just 5 minutes with a baseball bat...
Bingo!
I blame her for her naiveity in thinking she's safe in a "tropical paradise". It's in the Third World nontheless. I've been to a number of Third World hell holes myself, and they are not safe.
No mention of how heinous the attackers' actions are, either.
No need for me to mention how heinous the rapists were. It's all in the article. Maybe the other crewmates were involved too. We'll never know.
The answer from the article you posted:
On Sunday night, after being taken back to the holiday island of Samui, the two men were manhandled by police past onlookers into the investigation centre in handcuffs, their heads bowed.
Think she'd have been any safer on a stretch of the Gulf Coast? And, had you read the story, you'd know her "whiteness" had nothing to do with it.
The crew of the trawler, in Lamai Bay, were allegedly drinking heavily and watching pornographic DVDs when one of the pair announced: "I want to rape someone".
They will face a firing squad probably right away.
"The Thai Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, has called for the execution of the pair if they are convicted of Ms Horton's rape and murder. "They must be sentenced to the harshest possible punishment," he said."
("so that foreign tourism money will continue to pour in!")
Impossible! We all know that pornography has no correlation with antisocial sexual behavior, none at all! (retch)
Seriously, what kind of sickos do something like this? I remember when I was in college, two of my friends were drunk, were looking for a Waffle House, and stole a car (joyriding was the official charge) to look for food.
It was then that I realized that a thought like 'stealing a car' would never have popped up in my mind, and that some people are just wired differently. The boundaries are different for them than for the rest of society.
It is when you read cases like this that it's hard to be aginast the death penalty. You can argue all you want about cruel and unusual punishment, but it's apparent that these rapists/killers can never be released back into society. Arbitrarily and sporadically yelling, 'hey let's rape somebody' and then killing the person is the equivalent of a California mountain lion attacking a human to test the flesh. (At least the animal is just acting out of instinct) But what do you do to the lion? You eliminate it from the equation.
Why pay to clothe and feed them until they die of natural causes?
Daily lesson in irony: In prison, 'death by natural causes' might mean being raped and then murdered by a fellow inmate.
Thailand is visited by millions of vacationers every year, myself being one of them.
She wasn't being naive, she was being a tourist.
I believe you are the one that is naive. Thailand is not a hell-hole that you may think it is.
