Howard Stern: uncensored, uninteresting (satellite radio debut)
Chicago Tribune ^ | Jan. 9, 2005 | Howard Reich

Posted on 01/09/2006 10:21:09 AM PST by Rennes Templar

If there's a four-letter word or outrageous sex act that didn't get mentioned on Howard Stern's new satellite radio show, it wasn't for lack of trying.

Words that once were bleeped on Stern's terrestrial radio program, previously broadcast in Chicago on WCKG 105.9 FM, flowed uninterrupted on Howard 101, the Sirius satellite frequency that's airing Stern's reincarnated show.

And though it's true that the triple-X rated comedy bits and salty on-air patter didn't wholly define the program, the show unquestionably plunged more deeply than ever into material that many listeners would consider obscene.

-snip-

Yet this was just Day One of the program, and Stern will have plenty of time in which to find his voice in a new setting.

Judging by the opening installment, he'll need it.

Stern could deliver his entire show out his backside and still command a huge audience.

I'll say it again - "Listening to Howard Stern is like watching a train wreck but without the interesting parts".

A big mouthed, foul mouthed blow-hard who deserves his self-proclaimed title of 'King of all Media'. Says it all for the Media as far as I'm concerned.

the satellite debut proved surprisingly flat, the program unfolding more as a promotion of Stern's latest than venture than as a bona radio show.

Do newspapers even bother hiring editors or proofreaders anymore?

I have Sirius Radio but have no plans to listen to his show.

Give me NFLRadio over Stern, Limbaugh, Franken, Hannity, et al ANY day.

This seems to be the cliche consensus. It's pretty much baloney. Stern will continue to be interesting to the people who listened to him before.

Never listened to Stern before. Can't see much reason to listen to him now, especially if I have to buy a unit and pay a subscription fee.

I know where Stern is headed (hell)...it's too bad he doesn't realize it too. I'm glad he's off the airways. His show went down hill years ago.

So far Sirius is getting the hype that they paid for.

Yawn. Howard Stern was boring on free radio. He wont be any better now that he can swear all he wants. Stern's real talent is self promotion, but there is no substance to back it up.

Part of Howard's act has always been that he is like a naughty teen, trying to push the envelope as far as possible without getting in trouble. Now there is no longer any envelope to push. There is no barrier keeping him back. Seems like the end of his little act to me..

The publics embrace of such an untalented individual says alot about our society. Stern realized early on that sex themes were the only thing to fall back on to further his career. Unfortunately his audience has now been expanded.
