Stupidest thing I ever heard... "why all the secrecy??"

McClellan kept referring them back to the Veep's office for answers - then Helen came out and again, wanted to know about Cheney's foot.

I guess these reporters didn't think it was weird that parts of Clinton's health reports were sealed or some such.

Senator Cornyn really steps up to the plate when he's needed and nails it every time. I'm learning to really trust him. ;o)

You could watch it online on Cspan and skip all the dims. Some of the Republicans too. Definitely skip Specter and I don't recall DeWine saying anything worth listening to. My not-so-favorite senator, Lindsey Graham, actually did a good job though.

Did you note what old Patrick Leahey said?

"The President had an opportunity to appoint a woman or a minority or to add diversity on the court. There are many qualified women or latino or afro-american judges that he could have appointed [instead that evangelical sonofabitch appointed another papist-whop], but that's not your fault, Judge Alito."

It smelled of anti-Italian and anti-catholic hatred.

Just got home. What was the tone so far of the opening statements? Does anyone here think the Rats will filibuster?

I'm glad you were not offended, because none was intended. If I have plans to offend someone(which I usually never do), I will say so in no uncertain terms. I truly believe that a myriad of unnecessary problems are created when one chooses to side-step an issue.

The tone? Let's see. The dims whined about women's rights and imperial presidency, yadda yadda yadda. Some of the Republicans were surprisingly blunt. Senator Brownback talked about babies being aborted because of a positive Down's Syndrome test and how that was a tragedy. Senator Coburn got rather teary when talking about protecting the unborn. Even Lindsey Graham was on a roll, saying that Teddy Kennedy was hardly the person to talk about a conservative as out of the mainstream.

"Does anyone here think the Rats will filibuster?"

They even have less of a leg to stand on, after the resounding voices of the pro-Alito Senators. So, if they somehow think it is in their better interests to filibuster, they will look even more stupid than normal.

Chairman Specter had better stick to his guns on this.
There is no reason to delay, and January 20th is perfect.

"...the purpose of these laws was to protect consumers...from costly and possibly deadly accidents..."

Oh really? A number of years ago my husband and I stopped over in New Brunswick NJ on our way north to Nova Scotia to fill up--gas is cheaper in NJ than in PA. As we drove away the odor of gasoline was quite strong and got worse as we drove. We finally stopped and looked in the trunk--it was flooded with fuel! In an attempt to round off the price, or whatever, the attendant jiggled the nozzle and managed to separate the lower part of the hose from the connector. Thank God neither of us smoke!

We mopped up the fuel, had help cleaning and airing the trunk overnight and continued on our vacation. We returned home a few weeks later but never pursued any action against the station. However, we never allowed any stranger to fuel that Alfa Romeo again!

Hi Red,

Happy New Year! Skipped the first day of these "hearings," but heard the Kennedy sound bite on Rush's program.

S. Alito should refer to him as "Senator Kopechne." (Payback's a b*tch).

Come on down... hope you don't mind no state income tax (however, property taxes are another beast all together) + the ladies here sure are per-dy ;-)

Unless something unexpected happens to sway some pubbies, the dems don't have the votes regardless of what Schumer threatens.

>>> the ladies here sure are per-dy ;-) <<<

I went to the Univ of Colorado....1954-1960 + three summer schools. I did summer school because all the girls from Texas would come up to CU for the summer.

Not only were they per-dy, they were wi-ld! Our fraternity house rented out to girls during the summer, mostly Texas girls. I worked in the kitchen and waited tables.

Ahhhhh...the memories. I think I'll go shed a tear in my beer now.

Is it over for the day?? .. Did Alito speak???

Yes, as Charles Krauthammer said on Brit Hume's Special Report, after all those long-winded statements, he wisely took a drink of water to help awaken himself from a "Senatorially-induced coma!"

Yep, just a misstatement, like Osama Obama mama or some such. It happens.
