I think you're right. If Mexico moves politically, it will be by way of communism. The wealthy don't want to deal with the poor, and that's why we have a problem with illegals: they get a better chance here than at home.
The cartels have only to take the wealthy by force and help themselves to the wealth. Actually, the government has very often done that by way of taking wealthy landowners' holdings...sort of like or eminent domain.
Greed is so ugly.
Do you really still think the Russians are gonna nuke us? The nukes used in the movie were Russian, and the soviets led the proxy armies.
I really don't see the Cubans leading an assault with Latin American armies.
That being said, I still watch the movie when it comes on.
It almost happened. If Reagan did not put up a fight in Nicaragua and El Salvador, the geographically challenged Democrats would have let the Soviets gain a foothold in Latin America and a proxy army to carry out their strategic aims.
Ummm, have you actually looked at Mexico's military power? No modern airforce (their best fighters are Northrop F-5s), no real armor, no real navy. Regarding Mexico's military, a single division of infantry, and a USAF tactical wing could put an end to it.
Wouldn't be worth it, though, 'cause then we'd have to occupy and rebuild the pesthole while bandits shoot at us.
