Scott Thomas update: mom's guardianship continued!
Scott's fight website ^ | 1/3/06 | Pamela Patton

Pamela's guardianship renewed for another six months!  Please see "Scott's News" for more information. (continued at link)

http://scottsfight.com/Scott's%20News.htm

January 3, 2006

Today was the long-anticipated status hearing on guardianship for Scott.

The hearing took place in judge's chambers with Pamela and her attorneys and Eliza and her attorneys.  Pamela presented the judge with information that she has now filed with the court to have Scott declared "partially capacitated".  This means, at the very least, that he would then be allowed to indicate his preferences for his social environment, such as who is allowed to visit.  He has repeatedly indicated that he does not want to see Eliza, but he does wants to see his son.

Pamela also informed the judge that, after Scott is legally determined to be "partially capacitated",  they would be filing for a divorce for him.  [emphasis mine]

Eliza indicated to the judge that she would fight any divorce proceedings.

The final item that Pamela presented to the judge is that Scott is scheduled for surgery to close his tracheotomy opening, which should allow him to regain his ability to speak and make sound.

Based on all the above information, Judge Wilkes ruled to grant Pamela another six months of full guardianship of Scott.  This will be a crucial time for Pamela and Scott, as they continue to work, not only for Scott's recovery, but for him to regain the right and ability to truly "speak for himself".

Please continue to join us in prayer and other support for Scott and Pamela as they continue the battle for LIFE.

33rd anniv Roe v Wade.

info on FL governor's race -- Republican primary.

Tom Gallagher for Governor -- http://www.tg2006.com

From his website:

Protecting our Most Vulnerable Citizens

Part of building strong families and a civil society is working as a community to protect the most vulnerable.  A humane and just culture must recognize the dignity of all innocent life as something worth protecting and encouraging.

A culture will not be remembered so much by what it builds but by how it protects those who are most in need.

Support Crisis Pregnancy Centers and Non-profit Hospice Care

In addition to supporting the Pregnancy Support Services Program begun by the Governor this year, a Gallagher Administration will encourage hospitals, ob/gyns, and other health care providers to support these organizations with donations of supplies, equipment, and other materials.  Such groups are constantly refreshing their own equipment with newer models.  The establishment of a donation program will make it easier for health care providers to help assist crisis pregnancy centers and hospice caregivers with the equipment and training they need to carry on their valuable roles.

Establish a 24-Hour Waiting Period for Abortion

An informed consent statute for abortion was passed and signed into law several years ago.  The law has never gone into effect, because it was immediately challenged and struck down by lower courts in the state system.  The Florida Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case later this year. Regardless of the courts’ decision, women are entitled to be fully informed before they undergo a procedure as serious and life-changing as abortion.  Accordingly, a Gallagher Administration will advocate for a 24-hour waiting period before an abortion may be performed.

Encouraging Adoption

Every child deserves a loving home. A continuous, innovative and focused effort in the Gallagher Administration will be to encourage adoption, especially of the children in the care of the state.  Focus will be placed on funding and expanding the adoption plan and benefits currently in place for state employees, encouraging greater cooperation between the Department of Children and Families and private adoption agencies, and creating community-based adoption specialists.

Fully Fund and Expand the Adoption Plan for State Employees to All Florida Families Adopting Within the State System

A Gallagher Administration will fully fund this program for state employees and copy it so that similar benefits can be provided to non-state employees willing to adopt children currently in the care of the state.  A Gallagher Administration will also propose doubling the one-time adoption subsidy up to $10,000 per child and $20,000 per special needs child to help ease some of the financial burden of initial adoption costs.  No better investment in the life of vulnerable children could be made than to help them find them a loving family.

Create More Co-operation Between DCF and Private Adoption Agencies

A Gallagher Administration will direct the Secretary of the Department of Children and Families to establish regular meetings between private adoption agencies and the local staff of the department so that they can work together and better exchange information and provide insight on potential qualified families that may be seeking a child.

Create Community Based Adoption Specialists

A Gallagher Administration will propose the creation within DCF of Community-Based adoption specialists throughout the state.  These specialists will provide families with places to start and be shepherded through the process of adopting a child or becoming a foster family.  Trained adoption specialists will provide answers to questions, return calls of inquiry, and help find loving homes for children in need of a family to call their own.

Improving Foster Care

Assisting parents in their fight to strengthen their families and protect their children is vital, but there is much work that remains to be done in reforming and improving the way that the state provides care for children that don’t have a family at all.

A Gallagher Administration will expand on the “One Church, One Child” program to look to more churches and synagogues and ask them to help recruit more foster families to help care for these children .  Real focus will be placed on encouraging families who would not normally think of themselves as foster families to consider the option.

The Gallagher Administration will host an annual conference on foster care and bring together charities, faith-based organizations, civic organizations, churches, and synagogues to bring greater awareness of a very real social problem that can be handled by qualified families with willing hearts.

There are many discussions on FR that I choose not to involve myself with. When I see certain posters, most of the time I hit the back button. I wonder why those that choose to side with the euthanasia crowd, insist on coming on to threads where their posts are going to be inflamatory? I guess this is amusing to them :-(

Have they started flaming the Haliegh Poutre threads yet?

Somehow I don't think they will.

The euthanasia gang attacks only where they see an inroad and you can be sure it is always to incite. In the case of Haleigh, the tide is against them before they start. No Mikey to worship. They would look even more foolish and exposed.

I stay mostly away from the feeding frenzies on those threads like Mikey's wedding. I also would not swim in piranha infested waters. They may be docile, but if they spot weakness or blood, here they come.

Meanwhile, some swim through the placid waters of Freerepublic harmless looking as sunfish.

They somehow must know how ugly it would really make them look. Poor Haleigh was born into a family of felons, so they'll remain submerged, because to defend this would be defending child abuse.

I have to check out Nyr's thread about the wedding, which I was pinged to. This is a cause of concern not because it happens to be Michael Schiavo, but because of canon law of the Catholic church. It seems in some diocese, anything goes.

It is very interesting to see some of their posts about other topics. If I were in a more charitable mood, I'd say a prayer for them. Right now my prayers go to Haleigh and Scott for their continued progress.

I am a very old fashioned Catholic so this doesn't even compute to me. I found myself shrugging it off as one of those modernist concoctions outside my ken.

Brother Paul is quiet and unassuming. I am shocked, stunned at his eloquence once he starts talking on this subject, a voice filled deep with inspiration.

Actually, I am in awe and humbled at the eloquence and grace of each of the family.

From Pro-Life Blogs on Bobby Schindler and March for Life

Bobby Schindler, Terri Schindler-Schiavo's brother spoke at 1 pm. Very brief comments by the family friend, Brother Paul O'Donnell: "Last year Terri was murdered, yes, murdered, before our eyes. Please welcome and honor the brother and sister of Terri Schiavo..." Bobby Schindler:

Bobby: "I want to thank the Right to Life movement here and abroad. We lost Terri, but this doesn't mean that God did not hear our prayers. We've established The Terri Schindller Schiavo Foundation to help others avoid Terri's fate. The website is www.terrisfight.org. Thank you for your prayers and support."

More on Hialeigh Poutre from Michelle Malkin's site:

"Gov. Mitt Romney, to his credit (and probably to his peril), has weighed in clearly and forcefully":

"My concern is with this young girl [Hialeigh] and her current status. In light of reported improvements in her medical condition, it should be clear to everyone that no action should be taken to end this girl's life."

Update on Hialeigh as of 2:24 pm:

Mass. to Reveiw Brain-Damaged Girl's Case

Saying "errors in judgment were made," Gov. Mitt Romney on Monday announced an independent investigation into the state's handling of the case of a brain-damaged 11-year-old girl at the center of a right-to-die battle.

Haleigh Poutre was allegedly beaten into a coma last year by her adoptive mother and stepfather, who fought the state's efforts to disconnect the girl's life support. The state's highest court granted the state permission last week to disconnect the ventilator and feeding tube.

Romney, a Republican who is considering a run for president in 2008, said he will establish a panel to review the girl's 10-year, 45-page case log. The commission will look into whether case workers missed signs of physical abuse leading up to the September beating that landed Haleigh in the hospital, and the agency's handling of her care afterward.

"One cannot look at the life of Haleigh Poutre without being overwhelmed with sadness," Romney said at a Statehouse news conference. "She was not someone who fell through the cracks - doctors and social workers were watching, but errors in judgment were made."

The death cultists who supported WINO at the Vigil called the Franciscan brothers characters from star wars. Remember how their eyes glowed at night? That right there could be a movie. WINO's supporters who got to leer at Terri in her hellish room were the scum of the earth.

So Jodi gets her faux catholic wedding but if you kill someone, you are killing God.
