The perp probably knows the neighborhood.
He could be an illegal with no record.
He wasn't after money.
He will strike again or has done so previously.
Her mother needs to move her and her child from that area ASAP.
If the perp has a record they may be able to track his DNA, if not, one day he will slip up and whatever evidence they retrieved now will convict him then.
I think she needs therapy, a change of residence, and lots of support. Maybe one day she will turn this tragedy into a positive helping others somehow either as a counselor or as a prosecutor.

Exactly. The money didnt matter, he was there for the rape, money would have been a bonus.
On a first offense like this I would cut off his genitalia, all of it and sew it into his mouth and turn him loose.
