GAZA - Israeli artillery fire killed two Palestinians in north Gaza on Saturday after militants in the area fired a rocket toward Israel, Palestinian security sources said.
A Palestinian witness said he saw three men on the outskirts of the town of Beit Lahiya, a militant stronghold, when artillery shells flew from the direction of Israel and hit them.
An army spokeswoman said troops near the border fired shells at a group of Palestinian militants who had mounted a rocket launcher and had prepared to fire it toward Israel.
Palestinian security sources said two of the men were killed and one was injured. One of them was an off-duty policeman. They had been walking in a field near the officer's home, the security sources said.
Israel imposed a "No-go zone" in northern Gaza earlier this week in response to an increase in rocket barrages by Palestinian militants, marked by Israeli air strikes and artillery fire from the border against the gunmen.
Palestinian militant factions reiterated on Saturday that as of New Year's Day they would no longer be bound by a truce they had declared earlier this year. Israel and the Palestinians have repeatedly accused each another of breaking the ceasefire.

I like a story with a good ending.
Good work to say the least, however appreciation for their work would be ten fold if they were to kill the head "militants" instead of the worker bee's of death.
My appreciation for their work performed is 100% so don't mistake my comments.
What Israel should do is divide up "Palestine" into one km squares. Each Israeli killed should be paired with a square km, and said km would be cleared of paleosimians, and opened to Israeli purchase. money from the purchase would go to a "victims fund".
Very quickly, the murders would stop, or the murderers would have nowhere from which to launch attacks.
Someone should clue these Palio-stines in that firing artillery rockets from your backyard into Jewish towns is not upholding a truce.
