WASHINGTON — Rep. Barney Frank sees an “angry, divisive” fight ahead for Massachusetts if a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage reaches the 2008 state ballot.
The congressman accused backers of the initiative petition of trying to provoke a new fight despite a lack of controversy over same-sex marriage.
“Basically, they’re the disturbers of the civic peace,” the Democrat said in a wide-ranging interview Thursday. “We now have social peace in Massachusetts. They’re the ones who want to stir it up . . . This is a non-issue in Massachusetts."...

Yup. Apparently exercising your rights to speak your opinions, and to petition government for redress, constitutes a crime--"disturbing the peace". The war on the first amendment continues.
Barney would say that it is Mitt Romney's fault.

Geez, the signatories weren't Cindy Sheehan or Louie Crew. If they were, he'd be supporting their right to voice an opinion, wouldn't he.

I hate to admit it, but when Barney Frank is on the TV gabfests he's pretty darn good. He's got a quick wit and knows how to get his argument out there in the short time he has allotted without seeming like a kook or raving lunatic. Then you read this interview and realize that for as well as comes off on TV, he's still a loony Massachusetts Moonbat. See for yourself.

Actually, Barney what you call "disturbing the civil peace" some people call "democracy". And wouldn't the fact that there are 124,000 petition signatures (more than double the amount needed to get the Gay Marriage Amendment on the ballot) belie his claim that it is a "non-issue"?
How ironic is it that a man who comes from a state where people dumped tea in a harbor in part to protest the fact that they had no say over their affairs, now wants to deny that right to Massachusetts citizens who want to do the same thing. Instead this time instead of King George the imperialist in question are 4 judges no the Massachusetts Supreme Court. For some reason I suspect the reason he's afraid of letting the voters have a say is because he's afraid of the "reverse New York" effect - if gay marriage can't make it in Massachusetts it can't make it anywhere.

Um, don't you think it's a little too late on not becoming a "public spectacle" there Barney? I mean, do you really think anyone's forgotten that you answered a classified ad for a guy who described his attributes as "Hot bottom plus large endowment equals a good time", paid him for sex, then sat idly by while he ran a gay prostitution out of your apartment? So you might want to revise and extend your remarks to read "any more of a public spectacle".
But the funniest thing he discusses are his plans for a post-Congressional career:

Ha! Is he serious? A Massachusetts liberal writing a book on capitalism? What's it about? How to formulate policies that weaken it? One can only imagine what's next. Take your pick - Cindy Sheehan writing a book on how to avoid publicity - or Bob Shrum writing a book on "Winning Political Campaigns"?
And just imagine the chutzpah it takes to say, in one breath, that you want to write about "the legislative process and democracy", and in the next breath saying that people who want to exercise their right to democracy and the legislative process are "disturbers of the civil peace"? Typical Democrat logic."
