XM Radio: The Left Side of the Satellite Dish
FrontPageMagazine.com ^ | December 30, 2005 | Debbie Schlussel

When Howard Stern begins his satellite radio career on January 9th, he may learn that he hasn't escaped the censors.

Where terrestrial radio is sometimes disciplined by the FCC, satellite radio is governed by something far more malignant: The Orthodox Liberal-Left.

At least, that was my experience with XM--the number one satellite radio service and rival to Stern's Sirius. I was aggressively sought by XM to do a show. But XM's left-wing programming officials' idea of what my views should be were far more restrictive than a governmental body properly trying to enforce decency in extreme cases. At XM, they were obsessed with Cindy Sheehan and Jane Fonda, vegetable-infused bus tour fantasies, rigidly pro-choice, and opposed to Justice Roberts' nomination.

If they can afford to throw away half their potential listeners, more power to 'em... Fools.

I dropped Sirius on the eve of Stern's arrival. I will take a brief siesta from pay-radio until the Spring when I will subscribe to XM - the MLB contract is the difference and XM delivers.

I don't think XM or Sirius are notably liberal, either.

I'd love to see their ratings breakdown for the channels 'America Right' versus 'America Left'. If it's 50 to 1, I'd be shocked. It's probably closer to 100 to 1. They could actually get away with opening up a second America Right channel, and easily fill it with programming that would beat America Left by the same margins.

XM has 140 channels and I regularly listen to maybe three.

I like the Classical channel alot, C-SPAN radio's interesting and CNN-Spanish keeps me informed about left-wing sensibilities.

I like XM very much.

I agree. I really like Larry Elder at 5:00 PM CST. G Gordon Liddy is coming to XM after the first of the year. I wish Rush was on satellite...

You're correct, but for some, anything that's not exactly as biased as they are is their 'enemy'.

If I want talk radio I turn onto AM.

I subscribe to XM radio not for the talk channel but because of the variety of music formats.

I suppose I could look it up, but ... but do either of
the satrads carry any of the bigname conservative or
libertarian talkers? e.g. Rush, Hannity, Boortz, etc?

I don't know what the hell she's talking about. Sure, most of the news and talk channels on XM are leftist, but that's no different a situation than what exists in all of the media. I just don't listen to the crap.

I don't know much about XM, but Sirius does have two conservative channels. The first is Talk Right and the other is the Patriot channel. The Patriot channel has NRA news and some armed forces information.

NRA is why I subscribe to Sirius.

This is a pretty silly article. If Debbie Schlussel had any experience with the media she would know that most are die hard liberals. This is not exclusive to XM. She was trying out for a channel that is being run by a woman with an agenda. The channel will be a failure and I would not be surprised if it is dropped off the XM line up before long.

XM still has Fox News and most other conservative hosts on their own channel. Perhaps Ms. Schlussel should apply for a spot on one of those channels. There is plenty of talk of skanks and whores on Opie and Anthony on XM.

Yes. Hannity is on ABC Radio on Sirus. Sirius has two conservative talkradio channels - Ingraham, Tammy Bruce, GG Liddy, Jerry Doyle, and many others.

XM has Laura Ingraham, Dr Laura, Michael Reagan, and Rusty Humphries.

Conservative talk is well represented on both XM and Sirius.

Boy that was alot of writing that boiled down to - Debbie tried out for a job on XM and didn't get it.

Oh, and one of their program directors is a moonbat. SHOCKING!
