President Bush December 19 sent warm greetings to all who are celebrating Kwanzaa -- a seven-day observance emphasizing seven principles of African culture.
Kwanzaa, which will begin December 26, represents an African-American and pan-African holiday celebrating family, community and culture.
For additional information see Holidays and African Americans.
Following is the text of the statement:
THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary December 19, 2005
I send greetings to those observing Kwanzaa.
African Americans and people around the world reflect on African heritage during Kwanzaa. The seven days of this celebration emphasize the seven principles of Nguzo Saba -- unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. These values contribute to a culture of citizenship and compassion, and Kwanzaa activities help pass on African values and traditions to future generations.
As families and friends gather for Kwanzaa, Americans remember the many contributions African Americans have made to our country's character and celebrate the diversity that makes our Nation strong. May your commitment to family, faith, and community thrive during this holiday season and throughout the coming year.
Laura and I send our best wishes for a happy Kwanzaa.
Kwanzaa, Black History Month, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Black Entertainment Television, Black Caucus, Black Coaches Association, ad nauseum.
Who da peeps talking color now? Huh, b*tches? Youz, dats who!
Keep it up, soon it be us....and you ain't gonna like it. yo, Dig dogs?
/ebonics style rant
Wow..W has become one of the most ill informed President's of all time. His inner circle should tell him about what crap this "holiday" really is.
"WTF is Kwanzaa?"
Kawanzaa ... A good indication that God is black - and she has a sense of humour.
I have no argument with you about the silliness of this trumped-up "holiday" or its so-called "roots." I just don't see any reason to belittle the President. While you may not be "bashing" the President, some certainly are. How about the reference on this thread to the President's "cerebral deficit"? I'd expect that at DU.
Ronald Reagan never issued Kwanzaa greetings, because before Bill Clinton was president the only people who had heard of Kwanzaa were the more leftist Black Panthers.
This announcement was issued by the State Dept. I am going to go out on a limb and guess that our own Secretary of State will not be celebrating Kwanzaa this year.
God that is funny
What one has to remember is that even though the holiday is bogus and created by a torturing criminal, some innocent Americans do celebrate it. And to those [uninformed] Americans, Bush wishes greetings.
When does he kill a virgin or play with chicken bones?
didnt anyone mention to him that it's fake?
Some friend. Ultra liberal and rabidly Anti-Christian.
Wonder what your enemies are like.
Hey W-where in the he!! is my damn Festivus message. My outrage over your ignoring this holiday, which by the way is as real as kwanza, tops the list of my air of the greivances.
Not coincidentally. The SLA took them straight from Kwanzaa.
You've GOT to be sh*tting me.
You can buy a Festivus Pole kit here:
There should be one at the White House.
I've set aside a Kwaanzzzza plot in my garden and will plant soldering irons. Hope to get a bunch of 12 pound vises on the vines. Do I water it with flux or chant passages from Das Kapital to encourage growth?
Couldn't I just strip down an old beach umbrella?
"Couldn't I just strip down an old beach umbrella?"
Perhaps, but according to Frank Castanza it must have a hight strength to weight ratio. Rememeber...No Tinsel.

I send greetings to those observing Walpurgisnacht.
Satanists and people around the world reflect on Satanic heritage during Walpurgisnacht. This celebration emphasizes the principles of Satanism -- Fornication, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. These values contribute to a culture of citizenship and compassion, and Walpurgisnacht activities help pass on Satanic values and traditions to future generations.
As families and friends gather for Walpurgisnacht, Americans remember the many contributions Satanists have made to our country's character and celebrate the diversity that makes our Nation strong. May your commitment to family, faith, and community thrive during this holiday season and throughout the coming year.
Laura and I send our best wishes for a happy Walpurgisnacht.
I hate this kissing butt crap...
" Happy Kwanzaa" when he hardly could muster " Merry Christmas".
The guy I voted for had the guts to stand strong for his values and morals.
Not this PC crap.
I wonder who I voted for.
I think George got confused. He thought Kwanzaa was El Cinco de Mayo.
She is one of a group of college friends. So in my life she stays. She has directly offended me on more than one occasion, so I keep all communication with her to the barest minimum in order not to upset the group. We all went through a loss of one of our gang last year (at an early age) so petty politics should have been left out, but those on the Left don't often have their priorities on straight.
What a farce!!!
THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press SecretaryI guess if Kwanzaa (for black racists) is OK for the president to lend legitimacy by making an official proclamation, I'm sure that he'd have no problem helping out the neo-Nazis with a holiday for white racists. Right? I didn't think so. But what's the difference?

I send greetings to those observing Hitler's Birthday and Hitler Week.
Nazis and Aryanists around the world reflect on the national socialist and aryan heritage during Hitler Week. This celebration emphasizes the principles of Nazism -- nationalism, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, pride, and scientific eugenics to produce the master race. These values contribute to a culture of citizenship and compassion, and Hitler Week activities help pass on Nazi values and traditions to future generations.
As families and friends gather for Hitler, Americans remember the many contributions Nazis have made to our country's character and celebrate the diversity that makes our Nation strong. May your commitment to the fatherland and the master race thrive during this holiday season and throughout the coming year.
Laura and I send our best wishes for a happy Hitler Week.
And before anyone invokes Godwin's Law, let me say that the Nazis however egregious their crimes and their evil are responsible for less death and destruction than the so-called "African values" celebrated by Kwanzaa that have existed and do exist today in Africa (see massacres, ethnic cleansing, machete attacks, man-made famines, etc). Further, their murderous efforts fall far short of the widespread death caused by socialism (over 100 million in the past century) which is another tenant of Kwanzaa and its founder. The comparison between the tenants of Naziism and Kwanzaaism is relevant. The point is that President Bush sends out official Kwanzaa greetings with an official Presidential proclamation when he would never for a microsecond consider sending out similar greetings (as worded above) to those who celebrate Hitler's birthday and Nazi beliefs.
Here's wishing all FReepers a happy and prosperous Winter Solstice. (hehehe)
It was not the Free Republic thread that was ugly or controversial, nor is it most FReepers' opposition to Kwanzaa that is ugly. It is the Kwanzaa observance itself, its origin, its founder, its goals, and the fact that the President would recognize it in any way beyond informed derision that are truly ugly.
Hey, Spiff. Yep. You're right.
It was a great thread, though, wasn't it? :-)
I archived the entire thread up to post #66. Some idiot mod may have deleted it, but that didn't remove it from my cache.
In fairness achette attacks and ethnic cleansing are about indivdual tribal conflict, and not the "African values" (whatever that is) that Kwanzaa seems to long for. The problem with Kwanzaa is that there's no such thing as generic African values.

AKA White Liberal Teachers
Look at Africa. Look at the mess that is Africa. I challenge you to find one redeeming pan-African value. There are none. Everett, the sadistic con man that he is, had to invent seven of them and he invented them around his racist black nationalist marxist agenda.
Again, in fairness, you took the step of elevating inter-tribal genocide to the status of a pan-African value. I agree that Africa is an extremely polarized continent, but that does not mean that the entire continent is beyond redemption. Did you know that that Rome had Black Ceasars?
I never said the entire continent was beyond redemption. I know nothing about "black caesars" and couldn't care less about their's or anyone's skin pigmentation.
Again, name one redeeming thing that has come from the African continent in the past millenium.
Be serious. He's a guy that hits little white balls with funny-shaped sticks. He may be particularly good at it, but so what. Try again.
OK, I'll play your game, if you can you name one redeeming thing that has come out of South America as an example.
Why? Is there some South American "value" based holiday that we're discussing here that I missed? Did President Bush make a presidential proclamation extolling the virtues of that holiday?
Bush is a master at pandering. At least to those groups who hate him.
Kwanza is the political creation of a socialist progessive atheist wack job professor in Kaleefornia.
Therefore, Kwanza is not a Holy Day.
That's why it's a written statement....
Because its observants are American citizens just like you are, and he is their president just like he is yours.
