Cures for Liberalism

Liberalism is a notoriously difficult condition to treat: many important doctors who drive shiny cars have described Liberalism as "a bally hoo-hah". Incurable Liberals are best stored underground, or in submarines.

Purported cures include:

Um... Check out Reply #23. Justin ALREADY is a Freeper since October with the screen name of RealTeen

I saw that, but this was one of those threads that are so exciting, I just had to post without scrolling through the whole thing. I apologize.:)

It sounded like a great call.

Formative event in this kids life was 9/11. He will never be able to forget it.

None of them will.

It was a great call. You could hear the cogs in Rush's brain whirling as he talk with Justin. He chose his questions and made his statements carefully. Actually, I'd say Rush handled the situation very sensitively. LOL! "Sensitive" isn't a word I'd have thought to use to describe Rush--but he was.

My wife (who is a legal immigrant, a conservative and very appreciative of the opportunity to be here in the United States) and I heard you on Rush's show today. It was good to hear a young man such as yourself already recognizing the wisdom of conservatism.

Let me ask you a question if I could. Could you give us here on Free Republic an estimate of what percentage of young people in your age group are: 1) Conservative; 2) Liberal; 3) Apolitical/Disinterested.

I would be curious, and perhaps other Freepers would find it of great interest as well. Thanks Justin, and Welcome to Free Republic!

I don't think he wants to call his dad a union thug.

Simple enough to say that people vote their wallet and with a parent needing a union for their wages, you know they have to marry the leftist ideals that unions stand behind.

Follow the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

That is why IMO it doesn't matter what argument Justin makes to the parents, bottom like is the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is directly connected to their political point of view.

Rush shows all callers respect, even the Liberals. He gives them a fair chance to make their argument plausible. He has changed minds this way. Before I started listening to Rush all I heard was Rush Limbaugh! eeewwww!

They couldn't have been more wrong if they tried.

I had more than my share of fights with him when I was in High School. A lot of fights were over me listening to talk radio late at night. I would take a small radio under the sheets and put it up to my ear to listen. Somehow my father who must have an AMAZING sense of hearing heard me listening to it despite the fact it was barely audible and despite the fact that my bedroom door was closed. And when I say we had fights, they weren't just yelling type fights. I mean we got physical.

I think fights escalate big time when kids get into their teens, and not all of it is due to teenage hormones, which people seem to attribute it to.That is not fair, to blame fights on the kids. Parents go through things too.

I think a lot of it is parents at that time are suddenly coming face to face with the fact that they are ageing, that the babies they once held are now on the brink of being parents themselves. There is a thread of jealousy there, IMO.

And I can say that because I have kids and it scares the hell out of me, even though I am so proud, about what we will face in a few short years. Will I be able to come to terms with my mortality in time to not screw them up as adolescents?

When I was a child, there was a lot of neglect (my mom) and abuse (dad, sexual) when I was growing up, but my father never hit me. However, when I was 18, I can hardly remember this, but he started punching me, kicking me and my sister. I told her to get out of the house; I drove to pick her up.

To make a long story short, when people don't pay attention to their "issues", they hurt the people they love the most. That is why I have been in therapy for years and WILL NOT do to my kids what was done to me.

Oh man, should I click on "post"? LOL! Ah, what the h**l.

I loved your story about the talk radio, PJ. I used to do the same thing with a flashlight and a book. :)

Rush shows all callers respect, even the Liberals.

Rush's staff makes sure that all callers who get in, make him look good. He has said that.

Wonder what resume you need to get an interview?

Considering I'm in a place where most adults are Dems (northeast Ohio), I'd have to say that 25% are liberal, 35% are conservative and 40% just don't care. A lot of conservatives with dems for parents.

If I ever get done answering emails, IMs, and message board posts, I'll even try to get some more blog entries up tonight

LOL!! Good luck! ;)

Hey... don't let your fellow Freepers keep you from your homework. ;) That's important too.

However, I have a feeling that you're going to do just fine, no matter what you choose to do. :)

Greetings from a FReeper in Alaska. I have read the transcript of your phone interview with Rush, and also this entire thread. You have left a smile a mile wide on my face, RealTeen. Nice to see a young man who does not base his opinions concerning important issues on emotional rants, but rather on intelligent fact-gathering.

Hope to see more posts from you in the future. :) chena

I think you're right. Heck, I am an overweight housewife and the first thing I wanted to do after 9/11 was to sign up to defend the greatest country on the planet.

In years to come, sociologists will study 9/11 and its effects on American culture.
