Dowd is under a mistaken impression of her own intelligence-- if she truly were as astute and brilliant as she thinks, she would write columns that were something more than catty schoolgirl trash.
What she is overlooking is her own odious personality, which is evident in every column she writes.

Dowd is under a mistaken impression of her own intelligencePeople often mistake "articulate" for "intelligent."

Good point. Maureen Dowd mistakenly assumes that "accomplished" is synonymous with "intelligent." That may be the case in most industries, but in the modern media I'd suggest there is almost no correlation between someone's intelligence and their success in the field.

What she is overlooking is her own odious personality, which is evident in every column she writes. Not to mention that obnoxious, nasal voice. She sounds like Lily Tomlin doing her Ernerstine routine.
