Just when you think it can't get crazier, it gets crazier. Aaron Nicodemus, a journalist with the southern Massachusetts newspaper The Standard-Times, reports that in October of this year a senior at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth was visited by federal agents and questioned about a book he had ordered through inter-library loan. Apparently U Mass librarians are cooperating with the USA-PATRIOT Act. You know, the one thats all about Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism. The book was for a research paper he was doing for a course on fascism and totalitarianism taught by Professor Robert Pontbriand, a specialist in European intellectual and cultural history. The agents visited the student after he ordered a book that is, they informed him, on a "watch list."

Hell yes we want to keep an eye on anybody reading that pernicious garbage. Mao Tse Tung was evil while he lived and there is no reason to allow his evil to live on long after his arrival in hell.
Saying he was "visited" by agents doesnt mean it really happened. I was visited by the Swedish female volleyball team last night dont you know.
Has this story been corroborated or is it one the many ant-Patriot Act red herrings that sprouted up everywhere before the Senate vote?
"I think of David Horowitzs Campus Watch operation, and Lynn Cheneys American Council of Trustees and Alumni, both designed to discourage dissent in academe."
Actually Horowitz and his group are the real campus dissenters. The "academe" want to discourage the dissent from the right.
Or is it because the student's name is "Mohammed Ali Mohammed Baba" and the fact he's a camel-jockey studying terrorism makes him suspect?
"You must cut down these stories of shrubbery with...A RED HERRING! Or we will say 'NEE!" again!"
"The student's name is being withheld 'because he fears repercussions should his name become public.'"
In otherwords, he doesn't exist. *Rolleyes*
He ordered the official "Little Red Book" which was housed in China. He didn't order a copy, or one situated in the US. He ordered the one from CHINA. No wonder he got visited.
No agenda here......
Not credible, imho.
"Mao Tse Tung was evil while he lived and there is no reason to allow his evil to live on long after his arrival in hell."
Let the confiscation and burning of all copies of 'Mein Kampf' begin!!
Know Thine Enemy? Naaa - just censor the enemy!!
"Or is it because the student's name is "Mohammed Ali Mohammed Baba" and the fact he's a camel-jockey studying terrorism makes him suspect?"
No fundamentalist Islime has any interest in godless Communism.
This carefully planted story is total Bull. And, getting very little traction, I might add.
"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...."
I'd pay attention to those who I quote if I were you. The author of this piece also writes for Counterpunch. And "Dissident Voice is an internet newsletter dedicated to challenging the distortions and lies of the corporate press and the privileged classes it serves. The goal of Dissident Voice is to provide hard hitting, thought provoking and even entertaining news and commentaries on politics and culture that can serve as ammunition in struggles for peace and social justice."
Fake but true!
I think it's a damn good book to read for a class on fascism and totalitarianism. It's a perfect example.
I think it's time I got smart and started asking questions. I want to know if my ISP is going to challenge warrants and national security letters or just roll over. I want to know if my library is cooperating in snooping on me.
I still do not believe this story.
Nah don't burn them. Just keep an eye on folks who quote from them.
These are the same moonbats who claim President Bush was behind the 9-11 attacks.
