"BOULDER - The neighborhood around Columbine Elementary School is 87 percent Anglo. But enrollment numbers indicate that many neighborhood kids are going elsewhere. This year, the school in northeast Boulder is 82 percent Hispanic."

I'd imagine the fact that mexicans outbreed Americans has something to do with that small percentage imbalance. Some of those immigrant families are huge.

Funny how liberals never want to live under the same policies they want everyone else to live under...

"Any school worth its salt, with good teachers and good principals and good attitudes, can get these kids to achieve well," he says.

Uhhh......yeah. Sure. This is yet another mere coincidence where % of poor kids equals poor results.

You can draw a direct coorelation between free school meals and performance. The bigger % of free meals, the worse the test results.

BOULDER - The neighborhood around Columbine Elementary School...

Is this the same Columbine where there was a shooting a few years ago? I thought that Columbine school was in Littleton.

""For a liberal community, we aren't looking so liberal in the white flight we've experienced from some schools in the last 10 years," says Phillips, who was barred by term limits from seeking a third term on the school board."

Liberalism translated "its good for you but not us or our kids.... "

If parents are given a choice, why are they crucified when they exercise that choice?

If schools that are predominantly white outperform schools that are not, and that is demonstratable by facts, then is it racism to want to put your kids in a school where they will do better?

If schools that are predominantly white are safer and less violent schools that are not, and that is demonstratable by facts, then is it racism to want to put your kids in a school where they will be safer?

I'll choose what is best for my children and let people's perceptions of me fall where they may. I will NOT play the game of diversity at the expense of my children's future.

Nice to see the Liberals in Boulder practicing what they preach...NOT!

At least they aren't doing what they did when I was a kid on Long Island: "Redlining" black census districts to segregate the schools. I went to a mediocre 99% white elementary school but one mile from a black neighborhood, due to such redlining.

"My feeling is the problem is racism," Garcia says. "I think people are leaving Columbine because they don't like to be with brown kids."

Garcia may be on to something, though I have never heard of folks fleeing from a neighborhood that was sinking into a dung heap before.

Must be racisim and must be dealt with like a hate crime. Throw the book at them.

"Janey Has Two Mommies" would be a good one to toss.

Folks are just going to start fleeing the public school system altogether. Can't happen too soon, IMHO. Public shooling is a failed experiment, and they aren't going to get any better. Parents with the resources should get their kids out now.

"Whites are disproportionately requesting open enrollment in schools with high test scores; Latinos are disproportionately requesting open enrollment in bilingual schools," Howe and Eisenhart wrote.

Well, we can't have people going to school where they want to go to school, can we?

"I think people are leaving Columbine because they don't like to be with brown kids.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I send my kids to Parochial school because I don't want them in class with non-english speaking kids from illiterate families, hacking whooping cough germs on them and displaying open contempt for law and our country.  Maybe that's got a little more to do with it than not wanting to be with "brown" kids.

Denver and I believe Boulder, are "sanctuary cities" for illegals - the local police force will not assist the INS in any fashion. Now they are reaping what they have sown.

The other aspect of this is that there is a lot of violence, gang activity, drug activity, sexual activity and other aspects of the immigrant culture that are distasteful to regular Americans. Not that these things don't exist in pure white schools. But with a disproportionate number of Mexicans (to say Hispanic is nonsense), you have no hope for a remotely decent school experience for your kids.

The Mexican Illegal Alien community does not want to integrate into American Culture. They generally don't see the benefit of having their kids integrate either, hence the bi lingual nonsense.

In the hope for a future vote, the politicians coddle this behavior.

I am in Colorado, my daughter attends a mostly Mexican school and I speak from first hand experience as a parent.

Over half of the cheerleaders at my daughters school will not graduate this year because they are pregnant. All Mexican.

Thanks King Jorge.

On a brighter note the bill passed in the house last Friday is not bad. Now the challenge is to get the Senate to go along.

It is funny to watch Boulder reap what they sow.

"My feeling is the problem is racism," Garcia says. "I think people are leaving Columbine because they don't like to be with brown kids. I know I'm going to get killed because I said that, but I'm going to call it as I see it."

It has nothing do to with skin color. It has to do with (1) the fact that when a large number of non-English speakers enter a school, the focus is on those kids, and the kids who are fluent and capable sit twiddling their thumbs while the achievement levels for the whole group go down, and (2) "Poor people have poor ways." There is a correlation between a family's attitude toward education and achievement, their financial status, and their kids' educational achievement. What parent would choose to send their child into an environment where doing well is school is a sign of selling out to the "man"?
