Could the author have forgotten Abraham? How much human misery would NOT have occurred if Abraham hadn't grown impatient waiting for God to fulfill his promise of a son? If I remember, he and Sarah assumed that God forgot about his promise, so enter Hagar. Then Ishmael. The rest, as they say is history, but the consequences continue to reverberate today.
I've seen nothing but misery in my own life when I get impatient and try to make something happen. And I've seen this dynamic work equal pain in others' lives, too.
No better time than Christmas to be reminded of eternal Truths.
