Bill Kristol, executive editor of The Weekly Standard, said Senators Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Carl Levin (D-Mich.) are "crazy if they believe that Americans dont want to win in Iraq.
Kristol, appearing Wednesday on Fox News Channel, made his comments in response to a press conference called by the Democrats prior to President Bushs speech Wednesday on the progress in Iraq and the war on terrorism.
Reid and Levin, looking grim during the press conference, both droned about how the presidents plan to "stay the course in Iraq does not give hope to Americans living in the United States.
"This nation roots for success, Kristol said. "If the war goes badly, theyll blame President Bush, and rightly so. But they [Reid and Levin] looked defeatist, like they are half-rooting for failure.
"They are so grudging in their praise for Bush and the Iraqi people who are turning out to vote in this weeks elections at a great personal sacrifice, that I think Americans will reject or dismiss their comments completely.
Kristol said the Democrats are foolishly and appallingly pinning their hopes on future setbacks in Iraq to help drive down President Bushs approval numbers, which have been rising in the past few weeks.
"Politically, patriotically and from a human point of view, I dont understand why these Democrats dont lay off the politics and just watch the voting over the next few days, he said. "Americans are rooting for victory for our soldiers and for the Iraqi people.
They're playing both sides of the argument. On the one hand, they want this President to succeed, and on the other hand, they're carping about Rumsfeld should step down, and that the President isn't being specific about a timetable for victory.
The brothers Grimm... Reid and Levin and also that tiny senator from Rhode Island whose name escapes me.
You got it.
It's the exact same strategy they pursued with Reagan. They thought they had successfully minimalized him as well. They thought their revisionism had succeeded. They were shocked to the core when masses turned out to honor President Reagan. They were shocked when billions honors the Pope's passing, a man they also had tried to destroy. No matter what they do President Bush WILL be honored in time and there is nothing they can do to stop it. He will be credited for the transformation of the Middle east into the 21st Century. He will be credited for saving this nation and the world from Islamofascism. He will be credited for inspiring Freedom movements in other hemispheres. They, in turn, will be reviled in history for their cowardice and opportunism. If they were capable of seeing beyond the end of their nose I'm not certain they could live with themselves. I couldn't live with the knowledge my actions had sought to imprison millions in bondage to butchers.

it's a rare occasion when I agree with Mr Kristol.
alas, the days of yore are but a faint memory.
While Khris, I don't necessarily side with Democrats on all topics I will say that There is no crazyness about refusing the conclusion to a war. After having World war 1 and World War two, ( popular belief seeing as though bad things come in threes) we are not obligated to be a world police power and quite frankly exploring 'Democracy' is of little valor if you don't have it here. There is no reasonable point to have a World war 3 either, we could settle this political strife with paintballs and tranquilizers, hows that for stats?I Refuse to be Represented as an American in a war where we were the party torturing prisoners. It seems Britain took part too as to why they were bombed. Now you want to talk about a country so great as us, lets quit the starch and medal speeches and formaly dishonor this yuts who thinks Assault directly in conflict with Geneva Convention stats is the Patriotic thing to do. We're out!
YOu don't ever see the entire cabinet resound the President of the Executive Branch of the United states, "Happy holidays from all of us"....yada yada. In full, not El' Presidente'. Same with Congress....Entirely too much conflict of interest between Jeb phoning the winner to Fox and not solely to the electoral college. Thats what Americans are paying for, thats what Americans want to win , correct operating of the country where the oval office is for decisions not Cigars.

You are an idiot. This is ALL you care about? This is your issue? You are worried about terrorists but you don't give a crap about the terrorized?? You should not be an American. You should be an innocent Iraqi teenage girl who was beaten and tortured by Saddam's two evil, psychopathic sons. That might what it would take to open your eyes to who the bad guys really are. Like all liberals your value system is screwed up. Get lost pea brain.
Go back to your necrotic DUngeon, troll!
Saw Matthews on Hardball speaking to Dione. It seems Matthews has found another verb,...that would be, (forgive me ladies), "dicking around" as he referred to the decisions of the president. He used the phrase several times. The liberals all looked moribund after Bush's speech.
