State Trooper Shot and Killed During Traffic Stop In Carnegie Pennsylvania

A Pennsylvania state trooper was shot to death near Carnegie overnight. It happened around 2 this morning at the Roslyn Farms interchange on the Parkway West.

Details are just coming in, but what's known is a Carnegie cop spotted a state cruiser off to the side of the highway. Inside he found a state trooper slumped over the wheel. Apparntly he was shot to death while making a traffic stop.

An all points builletin is out for at least four suspects...all said to be black men who were last seen driving a 2001 Mercury Sable with a PA license plate FXE 6527. A manhunt with K9 units and helicopters is also underway in a nearby woods.

There are also reports they may have stolen the troopers handgun. Anyone in the area is warned to be on the lookout for anything suspicous.

Not the usual sort of local story I would post here however this is a breaking story in Pittsburgh and I am busy at work writing the story. Also the woods where at least one of the suspects is reported to have fled runs behind my house. Around three this morning I phoned my wife to warn her, and she said there was lots of activity.

Prayers to the trooper's family that this had to happen and especially so at this time of year.

PS an update just coming in...Being incredibly and ironicly PC, the state police are saying that even though the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous, there is NO IMMEDIATE THREAT TO THE PUBLIC.

Sigh...why try.

Everyday these brave law enforcement officers put their lives on the line for us. They are our domestic version of the military and like our military, they do a great job day in and day out. They only get press coverage when a bad apple can be used to make them all look by by the media, or when one dies on duty.

Tears and prayers to his family and for his soul.

Make sure your wife is taking safety measures - locked doors, dog by her side, loaded gun or other weapon, and phone in her hand. If she has to go outside remind her to be very careful, even in the garage.

Prayers to the officer and his family.

Just phuckin' $h!t !!! I'm a truck driver and, though I'm no longer OTR, I know what it's like to be out in the wee hours of the morning on cold winter nights and the thought that I'll be home in hours or days was the driving (pun intended) force that kept me movin' when I would want to consider changing jobs.
I see this man, only hours away from being home and he spots a car that may be just a happy drunken group of guys comin' back from a titty bar ... but no ... these bastards kill him.

Just, I'm so phreakin' angry !!!

Best wishes for your wife, and you.

We had a somewhat similar incident a few years ago, fairly near my wife's workplace:

Camden deputy gunned down
http://archive.thebrunswicknews.com/archive_detail.php?archiveFile=./pubfiles/tbn/archive/2001/January/31/Frontpage/A3125.xml&start=0&numPer=20&keyword=camden+deputy&sectionSearch=&begindate=1%2F1%2F2001&enddate=12%2F12%2F2003&authorSearch=&IncludeStories=1&pubsection=&page=&IncludePages=1&IncludeImages=1&mode=phrase&archive_pubname=The+Brunswick+News%0A%09%09%09

The spooky part was that the perp dumped his bloody clothes in one of her co-worker's carport before fleeing the area.

You just never know when something like that will strike near home.

Sadly not this AM. A few minutes ago I gave her another call and she said it looks like the search has moved away from our house. There are also reports saying the indicent happened at the Extended Stay Suites Hotel on North Bell Avenue near the Carnegie office park.

Although my reports say otherwise it wouldn't surprise me. That particular area has been reported to be a haven for drugs and prostitutes. Several years ago an >aquaintence< of mine worked at that hotel. He married a young gal with two kids who >had once< been a hooker. She was so happy to get married and start living a normal life...was beaming when she showed me the ring.

BUT...After only a couple of months of marriage they left work on Valentines Day...went to a couple local bars and a restaurant...got into some kind of argument there. When they drove to their home around midnight they were still arguing...he pulled a handgun and shot her in the head, killing her instantly.

He then took the body inside to the bedroom and at least one more shot was fired. Her mother heard it and knocked on the bedroom door to see if everything was ok. He said yes, they were just fooling around with "rough sex games".

She called the cops and ran with the kids.

I got the reports and wrote the intial stories without knowing who was involved.

Sadly the man pled insantiy and got off with life in jail.

Bottom line of me mentioning this is that while the hotel isn't to blame that area has been trouble and maybe something should be done to clean it up.

ALSO >BREAKING< AFTER SERCHIG THE NEARBY WOODS POLICE HAVE TAKEN A MAN INTO CUSTODY. WITH TEMEPERATURES IN THE 20'S HE WAS WEARING A TEE SHIRT AND FOUND HIDING IN THE WOODS> IT'S NOT KNOWN IF HE IS DIRECTLY LINKED TO THE INCIDENT>

Thanks for the concern. Wife isn't real good in tense situations. She even cried so hard at our wedding 28 years ago that she could say the I Do's. Then again she was marrying me, so I and our friends can understand.

She IS prepared thoough and we have gone through several rehersals for emergencies.

The big worry is that it's still dark, the manuhunt is still on even though one person is in custody, and the kids are making their way to school and the bus stops.

Hi, I have a daughter at WPSD and I'm very new to PA - Parkway West is right off 376 west, right? I know they will keep the kids safe at school, but this does leave me uneasy.

Bump to see if the public wishes are met (they're killed) or if the lawyers are going to win (they live). That seems to have become the $64k question these days. Now, when I read that the criminals AND most of the lawyers (what redundancy) have been killed, then it will indeed be a wonderful morning. Don't bother flaming, you'll just get all burned up for nothing.

It's I-279, Parkway West. Here's a map...

Mapquest, Carnegie

Looks like things are winding down now...at least one in custody and it's getting light now.

UPDATE...

There are now reports of at least one witness staying with investigators overnight. State police are not releasing any other details until a CMDR or LT comes from Harrisburg for an offical press conference.

There are also reports of atvicity at the SP barracks. Officers are reported to be arming with loaded shotguns and SWAT style weapons.

Aside...I think I know what they are trying to say but just what the heck is a "SWAY style" weapon? Kinda like an assault rifle, or maybe flash bang weapons.

They'll catch these scumbags and they'll sit on Death Row for 26 years at taxpayer expense -- just like Tookie.

And, 26 years from now when the details are forgotten, the liberal elite will call for pardons. I say 26 minutes on Death Row is too long for these four.

"NO IMMEDIATE THREAT TO THE PUBLIC"

Nothing to see here. They're only armed killers.

You're welcome. Normally I wouldn't post here, but something - I can't put my finger on it - struck me as unusual about this and when I had time I posted it.

I'd also like to thank Freeper sure-fire for posting on the local board. I just didn't have time, and now I want to head home to make sure everything is ok there.
