There is going to be post after post read today about how Christmas is being taken away and replaced by this... Holiday/Winterfest B.S. and Freeper after Freeper will lament on how awful it is, but the only way we (Christian Conservatives) will get Christmas back is to STOP BUYING!! I know that idea is a reach and will most likely never happen, but if it did, the retailers would bend over backwards to kiss our feet. They'd do anything to get us back into the stores. Christmas banners would be everywhere and there wouldn't be enough Salvation Army Bell Ringers to accommodate the retailers need to have one out front no matter what the ACLU and the Atheists do. Money will triumph over diversity any day of the week in the mind of a retailer. Anyway, what do y'all think Jesus would think of all this madness? It is His Holiday, but He's been lost over the past few decades... replaced by X-boxes, Elmos, Ferbies, and Cabbage Patch Kids. STOP BUYING and START MAKING your gifts. Go minimal for the next couple of years, tithe at your church instead of Wal-Mart, and leave the bulk of present giving to Birthdays and Anniversaries.

Wha... what was that? Okay... I was dreaming again. I'm awake now. Sorry!

I'd like to stop buying and have a minimal Christmas. Problem is I'd soon be divorced.

You're correct that the retailers will not change until they see a drop in their Christmas season sales.

Almost all my gifts are homemade this year, and I expect I'll do the same next year. I did make a purchase of some knives from Cold Steel, who send me a Christmas Sale circular every year. Cold Steel has excellent products, and the Christmas Sale is usually the best prices they offer.

I think "stop buying" may well be a pretty good idea. Of course, this is easy for someone whose kids are almost grown to say, but so many are just plain burnt out and depressed around Christmas because of the burden of all this Stuff. Now, retailers are pretending that the word "Christmas" doesn't even exist, and I see eupemisms everywhere in ads.

Maybe give them euphemisms in return--instead of purchases.

That line of reasoning worked so well for us in regards to the movie industry. Us Christians stopped going to movies back in the '60s because they were getting so bad. Yep, Hollywood straightened right out, and movies got more and more wholesome over the next several decades as a result.

Oh, wait, that isn't what happened, is it?

No you are correct. Just stop the spending. This year all I'm making is a contribution to the SA and my church. Let's start a revolution!
