"King Of Bombs" Hints At Terrifying Future Attack on U.S. By Al-Qaeda and Iran
PR-Web ^

Posted on 12/04/2005 3:01:41 PM PST by jmc1969

Nuclear terrorism book blends fiction with fact, presenting a chilling scenario for a future post- 9/11 attack on the United States. "King of Bombs" describes a plot by Al-Qaeda, Iran and North Korea to destroy the U.S. through a single, apocalyptic act of terrorism.

The character who is the mastermind of the nuclear terrorism plot in Filger's novel is based on the leader of the Al-Qaeda insurgency in Iraq, Al-Zarqawi. The author presents the war in Iraq as a latter day version of Afghanistan, where the struggle by Islamic radicals against the Soviet occupation in the 1980's bred the Al-Qaeda zealots who launched the 9/11 attacks on the United States. In a world where nuclear weapons technology has undergone dangerous proliferation, "King of Bombs" provides the reader with much to reflect on: could an even more dangerous breed of anti-American Islamist extremists emerge from the war in Iraq, determined to attack America with nuclear weapons instead of box-cutters and hijacked airliners?

First off, this is a book review, a review of a fiction book.

Having said that, anyone who imagines that the USA can be "destroyed" by even twenty nukes, has no clue how big the USA is, and the amount of damage caused by nukes.

Imagine if 911 had been done using nukes, a blast over WTC and the Pentagon. Horrific, unimaginable carnage and hundreds of thoudands dead. But it would not destroy us.

What would follow would be even more terrible and would kill even more, but it would not happen here.

Never underestimate the USA. Viet Nam and Somalia were anomalies caused by a small number of people. Think instead of Normandy and Nagasaki.

I agree. The US is much less centralized than most other countries. There would almost certainly be mistakes in the implementation and any country found to be associated with it would be completely obliterated.

Put Hillary Klinton in the WH and all of the above is possible.

The old USSR, with it's thousands of nukes, could never be sure they had enough to get the job done and were terrified of the response that would surly rain down on them.

The camel humpers better get a clue.

Yes, we get the message... "Gee, we should have never gone after them. We just made them madder. We should have made nicey, nice with them and they would be our friends.... Appeasement does work you know..."

No, utterly destroying them works. And that is what we are doing.

If America's political leaders had any b@lls, it would have been done a long time ago.

We will turn the region to glass.

That's a nice chest-thumping thought (one that I share, actually) but . . . . . dream on.

We didn't even have the will to smoke Fallujah, and how many terrorists survived as a result, going on to pick off our soldiers with roadside bombs?

There is nothing we can point to and say "See that? That's you if you so much as look at us sideways."

But even that's not very effective in the face of Moos who are eager to die. We need to get down and dirty - cropdust them with liquid pig immediately before we level them, ensuring that others know they're unclean and going to hell if it happens to them.

Screw the Moos - if the "Arab street" doesn't like it, the "Arab street" will cease to exist. And do it, not just talk about it.

Agreed except it looks like a "PRP press release about the new book. I would take a big grain of salt.

Thanks for the article

An act like that would almost play into our hands.

While some might say we are bogged down right now, no one can say we did not act swiftly and decisively the months after 9-11.

As soon as that happens, the NMD will be in place to take out the first salvo from them. By the time they have second salvo ready NK and Ir** will be glass.
NMD

Of course there is the issue of nukes on ships. or if the terrorists can get ahold of a few subs.

Agreed.

Every scenario we have is based on recovery and rebuilding, even if a number of major cities are gone.

Although I have a hard time believing it could ever happen, I tend to agree with most of the responses here.
If someone lit off one of those over our soil, carnage would follow.
My guess is that you would witness even the most liberal demo-commies among us screaming "pull the trigger!"

I shudder when I think about it. This would be the reason to drop the tolerance argument and erase the enemy from existence, with no regard for collateral casualties. In the end, you would see a completely devastated middle east, and a real pissed off North America scanning the horizon for anyone who dared to even flinch.
I don't want to live in that world. Call me a coward, but the thought of it really bothers me. Let us all hope it never EVER comes to that.

I have always maintained that it should be stated US policy that an attack on US soil with WMDs will result in a nuclear response directed at the terrorists and any nation that aides and abets them in this attack. Further I believe that Mecca, Medina, Qom and other Islamic holy sites should be targeted with nuclear weapons. Islam has become the Nazism of the 21st century.

It would not "destroy" the US, but it might damage our economy sufficiently to knock us out of Superpower status. At least long enough for China to make some moves and consolidate some conquests

Wretchard, over at Belmont Club blog has an interesting article, "Three Conjectures". In a nutshell, he makes the point that, if al Queda acquires nukes, and a credible capability for making nukes, then the US will have no choice except to exterminate the entire Muslim world
