Any ad hominem argument pointing to characteristics of a person holding a position is, of course, invalid, which people would recognise instantly if they had gone to school to be educated rather than trained.

Someone's history has no relevence to the correctness of their beliefs, anymore than the fact that Michael Moore is fat, goofy-looking, and dresses funny has any bearing on the validity of his arguments.
